“Worst Rip Off Hotel in Asia, Hotel did not honour the rates from ratestogo.com”

Hotel Villa Sunset Boracay

This was by far our worst hotel experience in Asia, and please consider that this hotel rates itself as a 4 star and charges accordingly high prices!

To start, the room that we originally booked (and were charged for) was overbooked, so we got an "upgrade" to a disgusting duplex, right in front of a noisy construction, the curtains were smeared with some yellow substance, and the bathrooms were covered in mould and infested with ants (see photos).

After 2 nights of hell we asked to be moved to the room we originally booked (we even booked for 5 nights!!!), and since they still didnt have the correct room available, we had to settle with getting a "downgrade" to the cheapest room available, which at least was more removed from the construction. No discount or apologies for this.

The plumbing is a joke, so there is not enough water pressure to have a decent shower. Also, there are no amenities in the bathrooms, shampoo, hair dryer, etc. has to be bought/rented separately.

We also made the mistake of booking in advance for the "luxury breakfast", which was instant coffee, cheap tea, powder milk, and assorted fried stuff. At our insistence they added juice and fruits, which they wanted to charge extra originally.

Worst was the check out, the hotel did not honour the rates agreed by ratestogo.com. How did they do this? By putting a ridiculous exchange rate on the dollar (prices are quoted in dollars, so unless you bring this currency, you will get charged an atrocity in Pesos). Additional to that, a whopping 7.5% surcharge on the use of credit card.

The owner was incredibly rude, did not even try to make things a little easier, even considering the mess up with the rooms we actually booked (and were charged for)

The island was great but this appalling hotel experience really ruined our holidays. I strongly urge travellers to not put up with this kind of abuse. I also want to comment that we contacted ratestogo.com with a complaint and they have not replied either.

“amazing place to stay!”

Hotel Villa Sunset Boracay

Jan 20, 2008

i loved this hotel! it was in a quiet location down a walkway off white beach, yet it was close to the vibrant nightlife of boatstation 2 which was a few minutes walk away. so you can have the the best of both worlds. shops and the tourist office were in close proximity to the hotel. we stayed in a nice room which was a big, modern room with a balcony. the bathrooms were also very nice. the rooms were cleaned everyday as requested by you. i loved the pool which was cleaned everyday, it had sun loungers by the side. they had a friendly security guard which made you feel safe. the staff were absolutely amazing they made you feel so welcome and couldn't do enough for you. as the hotel was small you always had that personal touch from them. i am going back there soon without doubt! a very nice hotel!

“Wonderful stay”

Hotel Villa Sunset Boracay

Jan 13, 2008

We stayed there for 3 nights and I can't complain about anything this hotel has to offer. The rooms were clean and modern. The staff were more than accomodating and friendly. We did not try the food because there are so many restaurants on the beach just a stones throw away. It will be my spot in Boracay whenever I return.

“A Decent Hotel, BUT....”

Hotel Villa Sunset Boracay

4 of 5 stars
New York
Nov 30, 2007

Villa Sunset - Boracay is a well-maintained and decent hotel, tucked away in a compact, gated compound about two minutes from the beachfront.

BUT... beware of the slight misinformation (intended or not) on their website. Specifically, their website's floor plan for the "Studio Apartment" (a step up from the "Standard Apartment") shows a kitchen. Note that this is really not a "kitchen" per se, but only where the mini-fridge is located. There is really no kitchen, i.e., with a sink, stove, oven, etc. We were of course not planning to do any cooking during our stay, but for those of you who intend to prepare your own meals, please take note.

Apart from this, it truly is a good hotel with a responsive and friendly staff. Located in Boat Station 2, Villa Sunset is also very conveniently located.

“wonderful vacation”

Hotel Villa Sunset Boracay

We stayed at villa sunset for 4 days and3 nights. We saw their resort here at tripadvisor and book our stay through their website. Friendly and accommodating staff, nice bed with clean sheets and towels that were change everyday, swimming pool, mini ref, aircon, clean bathroom with hot and cold shower, and free wifi in the rooms, bar area, swimming pool and cable tv. It is not beachfront but a minute walk to the beach and near tourist center and the mall. I would definitely be staying here again next time i'll be in Boracay.
