“inconsiderate charging”

they charge for bed sheets and towels u "stained" w/ henna. i paid about Php 2,000 w/ no questions asked. when i got home and washed them all, they happen to be just dirt and are simply removable w/ regular laundry powder. I havent even attempted to bleach the white sheets since the asya boracay staff says it's permanent and in no way can be salvage. so we are charged for them to replace whet we "destroyed." the "stains" (as lil as a specks) just went off like any other regular soiled blankets after bein machine washed. .. t'was really a hassle bringin a bag of hotel sheets i "allegedly stained". I talked to my friends who've been to asya boracay bout their experience and we actually share the same fate. could this be a gimmick? they thought they're framed. i really cant tell. i just wished they're more considerate in charging clients.

I stayed at the Asya with my Fiancé, my Mother, my aunt and uncle (my fiancé and I stayed in our own room of course), on 12th April 2008 for 3 nights, 4 days.

But let me start this review with my experience with booking the hotel first. After spending a number of days looking over different hotel options, websites and reviews here on Tripadvisor, I decided Asya is where I wanted to stay. I emailed the hotel to enquire about rates and availability. I received a reply from Ria in reservations who was very good and always punctual with replies to my emails and questions. Now the hotel has 3 room types (deluxe, courtyard and villa) and I wanted the cheaper option (deluxe) but they were unfortunately sold out, however I was offered courtyard suites at a good price so I was fairly happy with that as it was still in my expected budget. I paid the equivelent of 91 euro per night for my room (my mother paid a bit more for the extra person in her room, but i can't remember what that worked out at). Check their website to see what's included in their prices (asya-boracay.com). However if you check out their website now and convert their rates you'll notice they've increased them. When I booked they quoted in US dollar, they have since changed their rates to Peso, I think this is because the dollar exchange dropped alot from when they first published the rates and their new Peso rate is likely what they got from the dollar when it had a higher exchange.

Anyway as I was saying Ria in reservations was very good and helpful and we were able to sort out the reservation without any trouble. From this point I could tell I was in for a good time as I could feel the level of service and attention even before the booking was confirmed.

The hotel is located at White Beach between Station 2 and 3 (on the same road as the Tourist Office and Police Office), but is not Beach front. However to make up for this they do own their own Private Cove, for exclusive use of their guests, which is very nice. And because of this they also include in their price private speed boat transfer from Caticlan to Boracay, dropping off at their cove then mulicab (van) to the hotel ( 5 - 8 mins drive).

We traveled up from Iloilo by bus that morning (6 hours, bus left at 4.30am) and when we passed trough Kalibo I phoned the hotel to let them know that we would be in Caticlan soon. I was told to go to the "Fairways Welcome Center" where their Rep would meet us. Sure enough as soon we got there he (Gerald) was waiting just inside the gate. It wasn't too much longer before we were on the speed boat and then arriving at the hotel. With great service from the very pleasent staff all the way.

At the hotel we were given our welcome drinks, however I was expecting something more "pinoy" like Buko (Coconut) Juice, instead we got grape juice (the kind that is powder and add water), was still nice and refershing, but something more "local" would have been better. This is only a small niggle though.

We arrived around 11am, check out time is 12 and regular check in time 2pm so I wasn't expecting our rooms to be ready yet, luckily one of them was, so we all went to that one and we checked in for both rooms in the first room. My mother, aunt, uncle took this room because they wanted to rest and my fiancé and I went for a walk while waiting for our room which was ready around 1pm.

The room was amazing, very spacious, seriously it was massive. The hotel has a total of 30 rooms, but they could easily have increased this by making rooms smaller. And this is only the courtyard suite, if you went for a Villa Suite, that is twice the size again. Our room had a micro wave, a mini bar that was stocked with free drinks (2 San Miguel, 2 San Mig Light, 2 Coke, 2 Diet Coke, 2 Sprite, 2 mineral water, the water is restocked free each day if you want a restock of the others it'll cost you). The beds were very confortable and we had a balcony (the windows on the sliding doors for this were like one way mirrors too).

The complex is very nice, there's lots of plants and greenery growing which gives it a very nice feel. The pool area is very relaxing too, however the pool isn't very deep. Only 4 feet at the "deep" end, but was still very nice for a quick and relaxing dip. Inside the resort it almost feels like another world.

As I said previously the hotel is not beach front, but honestly it's not that far from it, 2 mins walk at the most (likely less) and you are on the famous White Beach and not too far from the action either. This is another great thing about Asya, while it is not too far busy beach and nightlife it is still peaceful inside the resort, it's like the best of both worlds.

The private cove also is fantastic and a nice getaway if White Beach is busy during the day. Asya can also provide snokels, kayaks, volleyball and more for free (first come first serve) at the cove. However they don't let you bring food into it. They have a snack bar with pringles, nova etc. And they can also cook food there, however the menu is a little limited and pricey, 200 peso for a burger seemed a bit steep. (You can find the menu on their website). Also while they offer free transport to and from the cove the van only makes 3 scheduled runs a day, so there is a possiblity you could end up spending more time there than you want to, although you could get lucky if there happened to be other guests arriving/departing you could then hitch a ride back with the van when it picks/drops them at the cove.

They are building a 2nd larger complex at their cove, from the artist impressions I saw it looks like it will be amazing, but I think I would prefer the complex at White Beach as it's a nice walking distance to the nightlife.

The hotel can also organise pretty much every activity there is to do on the island, from island hopping, to parasailing to horse back riding. However if you want to do island hopping/boating I would suggest to do this outside the hotel as you could do it cheaper outside. I recommend looking up a group called "The Red Pirates", they have a bar just past Station 3 and they have a sail boat (paraw). I was recommended to go with them and I'm glad I did, sailed for 5 hours with a BBQ included (500 peso per hour, BBQ for 5 people 1000 peso, included chicken, pork, fish, banana and mango). However if you want to do water sports activity like Jetski, parasailing, etc., I found the prices the hotel charge were the same as if you did it outside the hotel. Because of this I recommend to do these with the hotel. The hotel will organise these with an outside company (there are many on the island) and you can feel comfortable they will use a reputable one. They will also have someone pick you up from the hotel by tricycle to bring you to the point where you'll leave the beach for the activity and then bring you back to the hotel, at no extra charge.

The hotel does have a restaurant in the complex, however we only ever ate there for breakfast as it was included in our price. Breakfast was very good too and a nice start to each day. We didn't have any other meal there, but not because it was bad we just wanted to explore the outside and experience as much as possible so opted to eat outside the hotel each night. Some places I would recommend are Guillys Island up near Station 1 (will be a bit of a walk), Hey Jude and Cafe Cristina at Boracay Regency, for music/disco look up Summer Place, Cocomangas Bar and MO2 Wave.

All in all we had a fantastic time at Asya and at Boracay itself and I would definately return to Asya if (and when) I go back to Boracay. They also give you a souvenier photo to bring home, we almost forgot to get ours taken, lucky the receptionist reminded us on our 3rd day. The hotel is great, clean and well maintained. The staff, from the pick up rep to the receptionists to the bellboys and cleaners all did a fantastic job and always willing to help or answer any questions I cannot praise them enough. They also won't take any tips either which was a bit odd, but this is because the hotel operates a "centralised" tipping system, is what they call it. You don't have to tip each staff member as you go along, but rather just leave one tip when you check out which is then shared evenly amongst all the staff. (Like a bar tip jar i guess).

Sorry if you found this review a bit long, if you read through the whole thing thank you and I hope you found it helpful. In short I guess I could say if you don't mind not being beach front you can't go wrong with Asya. And when you get there you won't even be bothered about it not being directly on the beach.

I'll attach some photos to this review for you to look at and i'll be uploading some videos to my Youtube account, which you can find at youtube.com/mokongx3m

Thanks for reading and if you're going to Boracay I hope you have a great time.

From the moment you are picked up and taken to the pier and load into a nice new clean private boat you know you are in for something special! once you get to the resort you are greeted by the nicest staff. The penthouse suites are amazing, you could play football in the shower (let alone the rest of the bathroom) it is that spacious. the rest of the room almost too spacious. comfortable king bed with french doors that open to a magnificent, large balcony. these modern rooms are just fantastic with good privacy, one way windows to the rest of the resort. the rest of the resort is such a relaxing place with shaded areas and wireless access almost everywhere, lush green plants around the pool make it feel like an oasis for the rich an famous. The staff were fantastic catering to any of our needs and the food you would expect from a five star french restarunt. i really felt like i was special here. would definatly come back and have very fond memories of this specail place.

I've been in Asya Boracay last March 14-16,2008. I am really surprised to the great service and accommodation they have.Only there is a delay picking up us in the airport. It was nice to ride in speedboat to transfer to the hotel. The staffs were really friendly and helpful. We got the country yard suite which is the best room they have,it has nice bathroom, soft beds, huge air conditioned and good view of garden. The food was great and just in right price. The swimming pool was also good, very relaxing. Also try the private cove, the water is clear and you will also enjoy the trekking up in the mountain..you can see the view of boracay up there.
We were surely go back in Boracay and stay in Asya again. We will also recommend this hotel to friends.

“Very good place to stay”

Asya Boracay

Feb 1, 2008

Asya Boracay is a new hotel just off of White Beach near Boat Station 2. It is very clean and comfortable and has one of the nicest and biggest bathrooms that I have ever seen. Unforunately, I was sick for much of my time at the resort, so I couldn't enjoy the pool or many of the other amenities. But I wish I could have.

The Asya Cove is a very nice place that is accessible only by shuttle. It is a private place only for Asya guests. They have snorkeling and kayaking all for free. My only complaint is the infrequent shuttle, which is about 3 times a day and requires you stay for 3 and a half hours. There is really no other way to get there than the shuttle. It also would have been nice to see more food available there. Although I can understand their limited selection since there were only a total of 4 guests at the cove when I was there.

The food was good, but a little more expensive than other places. I liked the BLT best. We had massages in our room that were set up by the hotel. It was fairly cheap considering they came directly to our room.

I was disappointed that they charge 100 peso for one hour of internet. That's about $2.50. They charged me for the entire time, even though I only needed the computer for about 10 minutes.

Asya was our last hotel before heading home. They did a great job to get us to the airport, including taking us on the speed boat (from the private cove) so we didn't have to go to the jetty port. I would recommend this hotel for the location, amenities, and cleanliness of the rooms.
