We did have reasonable expectations of good service prior to checking in to the River View Hotel in Singapore and were disappointed to say the least. The reception staff we encountered on numerous occasions had a very poor understanding of the English language which made simple transactions hard.

The room looked recently refurbished with incredibly hard mattresses and if you are tallish i.e. 183cm expect your feet to hang over the edge, like mine!! The relatively new television didn’t work from day one and we couldn’t bear having to explain our predicament to the reception staff, no one seemed to have a smile on there face or the ability to say good morning or good night, overall an experience we will not repeat.

I've heard from my future- in laws that it was a good hotel and have a reasonable price, so i decide to booked this hotel for my bachelorette party trip with my girlfriend last september 2006 and stayed there for 3 nights, they have upgrade our room into new renovated one which is have a plasma TV. the other good things from this hotel is location, its near from clarke quay (about 15 min walking) and also u can easily take a bus to orchard road from halter just infront of hotel, and for a night life.. this hotel is only 5 minutes walking from the famous ZOUK! :)

if you want to take a mrt from Changi airport u can stop from outram park mrt (interchange station from North east line and East west line) and just take a taxi from there to Riverview hotel, it only cost you not more than 5 sing dollar :) it was a good saving rather than you take taxi direct from Changi airport

I'll be back to this hotel soon for my honeymoon trip next february :)

Hotel is a bit out of town so if you are on foot plan an extra half hour each day to go and come back. Hotel itself was nice. Some staff were very professional but unfortunately we felt that our older Asian counterparts staying in the hotel received a better service than we had. Rooms were clean and nice. Bathroom showing early signs of needing updating.

When we arrived they had only a twin room instead of a double but said they'd change it for us the next day. They did change the room but it took a couple of attempts and some pretty unwilling looks before it happened. There was also confusion over whether breakfast was or wasn't included and they were quite rude. Breakfast it would appear was not included.

Would not choose to stay there again as service did not match the price/star grading of the hotel.

We stayed at the Riverview for 6 nights in June this year. We found it a great base to explore Singapore from, especially since the SIA hop on hop off bus stop was just across the road. It was an easy walk along the river path to Clarkes Quay restaurants and bars, and a large supermarket and shopping mall. The roof top swimming pool was very welcome, and it was a quieter location than the hectic area around Orchard road. We also had a lovely view.
The only down side was the room size, rather to small for the extra bed we had booked for our daughter, quite big enough for two however. We did make a fuss about this, and were given a newly decorated rooom in compensation. The whole hotel is being upgraded, the original rooms are ok but a bit faded.
