We usually stay at the Fullerton, but having seen the great reviews for Naumi on Tripadvisor, and getting a good rate via the SLH website, we decided to take a chance and try somewhere new.
We are so glad we did!
Having arrived early in the morning, after a long flight, we expected to just leave our bags and go explore. However, we were told they hadn't been fully-booked the night before, so a room was ready for us to check straight into. Not only that, but because it was our honeymoon, we'd been upgraded from the deluxe suite we'd booked, to a corporate suite (room 202). Lucky us.
First impressions of the room were great. The kitchenette was well equipped - full size fridge, stocked with complimentary water, sodas and beer; a toaster, microwave and one-ring hob (not that we used them, but nice to have); and a Nespresso coffee machine. There was even a wine fridge. There was also a good range of cups and glasswear. Oh and a snack of cookies and dried corn kernals.
There was a desk/dining table with two chairs; the sitting area had a long sofa, facing the most enormous TV!
The bedroom was cosy, with another TV. The wall betweeen the bedroom and sitting room was actually a screen which opened like vertical blinds. It was nice to have it closed, as although it meant no natural light in the bedroom, it meant we could sleep off jetlag without daylight intrusion.
The ensuite bathroom was large, with a huge shower stall (easily big enough for two) and a freestanding bathtub. The toiletries were great quality, the Aesop brand. The host who showed us to our room said she'd send up extra, like make-up remover and so on, but they didn't arrive. There was also a proper hairdryer, and jars full of cotton wool, and cotton buds.
The room had gadgets galore. An ipod docking station in the bedroom, one of the room phones was portable, and could be carried to any part of the hotel if you were expecting a call but didn't want to be confined to your room. There was a myriad of lighting options, which took me a while to figure out! There were also little touches like orchids in the sitting room, and birds of paradise in the bathroom.
A design feature I liked, which is throughout the hotel, is the feature etched glass wall.
The bed, which was absolutely enormous, was one of the comfiest I've ever slept on. The mattress had a topper which made me feel as if I was coccooned. Just glorious,
We felt right at home, straight away.
We had breakfast included in our rate. It's a buffet, served in the hotel foyer, which doubles as the bar and breakfast room. There were lots of choices - fruit, cereal, juices, cheeses, breads pastries, smoked salmon and three hot dishes to accompany the eggs, which are cooked to order. It's more than adequate, and good quality, but not the (overly) vast range of choice offered at some deluxe hotels. There's also free-flow complimentary pink champagne with breakfast. We had a glass, but it wasn't to our taste so didn't have more.
I didn't look in on the yoga room or gym, but the rooftop pool was heavenly. Small, but the pool area has been well designed, and the views are tremendous. Looks over Raffles and is very pretty. Beautiful at night.
There were a few not so good points:
Our room was on the 2nd floor, directly above the foyer, and we could hear the music which plays all day - and late into the evening. However, it didn't disturb us hugely. If you're sensitive to noise, ask for a room higher up.
I feel churlish even mentioning these things, as we didn't mention it to housekeeping at the time, so didn't give them the opportunity to correct them; but little things didn't work, such as the sink plug wouldn't stay in. One of the bedside table lamps not only wasn't plugged in, there was nowhere that we could see to plug it in, so it was just an ornament!
The staff were wonderful, very accommodating and friendly. As well as the room upgrade, we were also sent a bottle of wine as a gift to congratulate us on our honeymoon.
All in all, we loved the hotel so much, that for our return leg to Singapore, we've cancelled the other hotel we'd booked and have rebooked back into the Naumi instead.
