“Awesome!”

Antumalal

Oct 13, 2006

This hotel is true gem. The setting is gorgeous, the rooms are cozy with expansive lake views and a fireplace, the restaurant's food is delicious, and the common areas are perfect for lounging around in front of the fire with a glass of wine. Although we visited the lake region before the weather was such that activities in the lake were possible, there are so many other things to do in the area (hiking, thermal springs, horseback riding, etc.) and the staff is more than happy to give advice and help with arrangements. Furthermore, the hotel's price is very reasonable for the fabulousness of the place. If you are considering staying here, you will not be disappointed.

“Let down by the service”

The antumalal has one of the most magnificent views for a hotel- every room looks out on scenery which would compete with a swiss alpine scene; beautiful lake, snow capped peaks etc. Our room was a little small but entirely comfortable and with character. We found the relative isolation was what made the place....and Pucon centre was an easy enough walk away (around 1/2 hr) and an easier taxi ride. The hotel gardens are beautiful and really relaxing to sit in and walk around and you get a view of the volcano from the edge of the property .
However, what should have been a perfect experience was undermined by the service at the hotel. We stayed 3 nights and we found every encounter with the restaurant, including the room service, really frustrating. The wait staff disappeared for extraordinarily long periods of time while we all sat around waiting to order; breakfast would be packed up well in advance of closing time and would have to be unpacked for us and a number of other couples; we are still waiting for the simple food and drink order on our last day there- empanadas and sprite didnt arrive after 50 minutes, even after a couple of reminders that we needed to go to the airport- so we had to cancel and go hungry. A couple of the days they had buffet rather than al a carte and even still 2 wait staff just could not cope with relatively few guests and management did not seem to assist when needed.
We knew some rudimentary spanish but the room service staff knew no english- which I found surprising for a hotel which has about 80% of its guests from overseas; ordering 3 courses and drinks over the phone started having echoes of Fawlty Towers. There are some other niggles with this hotel which undermined our stay, including a hotel employee pushing on us views on immigration which we did not appreciate, and therefore what should have been a perfect stay became a so-so experience.

“Wow, what a place”

Fall (May) in the South of Chile can be cold and rainy, but who would care at the Hotel Antumalal? This hotel, built in the 50's, has the most incredible modern style. All rooms have fireplaces, beautiful baths, and a view of the lake to die for. Then again, the pool and spa area with the calico cat that is the receptionist!

The food was terrific and the bar is right out of a movie set. Good desk service. Rooms were very comfortable with down comforters and good beds.

This resort is not like the Grand Pucon, which would appeal to the younger set with the casino and night life. Definitely for the more mature traveler. Slightly out of town and the hotel did not have a car, so had to cab into town, but just $4.

“Fantastic Getaway”

My wife and I visited Antumalal in mid-April. We were looking forward to the Frank Lloyd Wright inspired hotel since we were coming from his hometown of Oak Park, Il - and this place did not disappointment. The rooms were very cozy being made of all-natural materials. The wood burning fireplace is great to have when it cools down at night. The restaurant is outstanding and overlooks the lake at sunset; and has the most attentive wait staff I have ever interacted with. This is a great place to have a quiet, romantic getaway with all of the outdoor activities and mountains of Pucon a short drive away!

An absolutely wonderful place to stay.... We had a fantastic experience at Antumalal. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. The food and service at the restaurant were exceptional. The gardens and grounds were so much fun to walk through. It was like a neverending maze of beautiful flowers and greenery. The rooms were cosy, rustic and very clean. I loved having a fireplace. This hotel is definitely worth visiting. It's like a vacation all by itself.
