All we wanted out of this hotel was classy treat to top off 3 weeks travelling in south america on a high. This place was a disaster from start to finish. our room was ground floor and had half of santiago walking by the window & dodgy characters lingering outside. the second room had faulty electrics which cut out when i used the hairdryer. it took 40 minutes and several trips to reception before anybody came to help us. there are no guest guidelines in the hotel so if you do not speak spanish working out how to use the internet or the gym is a nightmare because everyone on reception ignores you or looks at you like you are ignorant or stupid.
You expect that sometimes there are problems when abroad but the sign of a good hotel is
1) that they are sympathetic/apologetic
2) that they sort the problem quickly & efficiently
Neruda didn't once call to check that everything was ok, even after all the electricty went off in our room! NOt so much as a complimentary drink or box of chocolates
5 star? i wouldn't pay 40 quid a night to stay there let alone £90
