booked at a fabulously low off-season rate ($75 u.s. a night) through chile-hotels.com (see my hotel san martin review for more info). i know i got a bargain because i checked other sites for this hotel and most listed it at over $150 u.s. a night!

an very spacious and clean room with sliding doors to large rooftop patio shared with one other room. small but nice ceramic tile bathroom with lots of toiletries and thick towels. this is hardly worth mentioning, but temperature was quite difficult to regulate in shower. the t.v. had lots of cable channels and several in english. maid service was pleasant and very thorough.

very nice free buffet breakfast in lobby area with plenty of fresh fruit and juices, pastries, cereals, eggs, meats, etc.

location in providencia is extremely safe with lovely tree-lined streets, plus plenty of shopping and cafes around. street is busy/noisy with traffic in front of hotel, but we had a side room and were not bothered by it. a scenic and very safe 20 minute walk to central santiago's sites, but the metro is only a couple of blocks away. santiago has one of the nicest metro systems i think i have ever seen (very clean and safe).

front desk staff was kind and helpful. at least one person spoke some english, even in the middle of the night when we needed them to call us a cab ($26 u.s.) for the airport a 2:30 a.m.! (it took less than 15 minutes for one to arrive for us).

would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Just returned from a 10 day Easter break vacation. to visit our daughter who is studying in Santiago for the semester. Our stay at Hotel Neruda (for part of our trip) was quite good. The room was very large. There were three double beds for four people. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly. The complimentary breakfast was satisfactory, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, pastries, croisants, eggs, ham, bacon, juice and coffee. The location was great; right near the Metro and near excellent restaurants. There is also a pool and gym(which we didn't try). My family would definitely return. We got a very good rate through Southamericahotels.

We stayed here on New Year's Eve - a particularly quiet time until the fire works in Santiago. The rooms were nice, service was excellent and gracious(though no explanation was given as to why the pool and gym were closed, just "they are closed")and they definitely offered the best breakfast we had in two weeks of traveling. The location was great for walking and for the bus and subway (which was a lot of fun).

Overall, the hotel is OK and in a good location. Service was very good and helpful. I had no problem having a taxi onsite for a ride to the airport. The room had a bathroom and small kitchen area, but was in serious need of new carpet and wallpaper. I did not have air conditioning/heater although there was some type of machine in the room that I could not understand how to turn on (it had no dials). I felt as though the hotel may be on somewhat of a downswing and is in need of renovation work in the rooms. I would say that only parts of the hotel are 3-star quality, the rest being 2-star.
