“Rude and hostile staff”

Hilton Colon Quito

The hotel was standard Hilton, large room, a bit soulless but adequate and a very good breakfast on the Executive floor. It was also a good deal cheaper than the Swissotel in Quito where we stayed on an earlier part of the trip. However, what completely spoiled the stay was extremely rude and unprofessional reception staff on the Executive floor with bad attitude and who were hostile, unfriendly and arrogant. On that basis, I would never stay at this hotel again nor recommend it to others. I will be writing to the manager of the hotel and the Hilton Group to raise my objections about the treatment we received which was completely unacceptable especially to a Hilton VIP cardholder.

Wonderful staff, great workout room, comfy, quiet rooms. I ate out of
the hotel because it was way cheaper even though the hotel restaurant
was not expensive per American standards. I would stay there again.

“Great location”

Very nice hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet had many choices, both native and international choices. The juices always surprised me, blackberry, strawberry, carrot, guava, mango, etc. The hotel is right across from the Indian market and only a couple of blocked from another market. There is a historical museum approx. 5 minutes walk. You can easily walk to ‘old’ town. It’s quite safe during the day. We took a taxi to old town for $2 and walked back. The concierge also helped us in finding a restaurant which was incredible. It cost us $12-15 total for wine, soup and steak dinner. It was in what they call the ‘gringo’ part of town. If you’re really homesick, there is a KFC and a McDonalds 5 minutes down the road.

We stayed on the executive floor where breakfast as well as evening snacks and drinks were included. Rooms were nicely decorated with down comforters. Great views of Quito and the Andes. We were allowed to go to the roof to see an amazing view of the city and mountains/volcanoes. The service representatives on the executive floor had great advice on restaurants and shopping.

“Safe, clean and perfect in Quito”

Hilton Colon Quito

The cruiseline booked us here, and we were delighted with the room, welcome drink (in spite of an election in progress which closed down all drinking establishments.)

Quito has some problems. Our cruise buddies were followed in the botanical gardens park and were knocked down, a camera was stolen. For that reason, I'd prefer to stay in a hotel like the Hilton where we noted armed guards at the front doors.

The Concierge called a taxi to take us to the 0 degrees lat and longitude site, and it turned out to be a "friend" in a very nice car who took us there for a set taxi fee--it was comparable exactly. I'm still not sure I would have gone with him had I noticed there was no meter, but it all worked out fine, and he waited to bring us safely back. His English was great and he was a great source of information. The reason I'm hesitant about non taxi drivers is that we met another tourist who was robbed from the "taxi" right downtown. But her taxi wasn't arranged by the hotel concierge, so maybe that's the difference. Hard to know in a different culture.

The hotel was full of Ecuadorian roses, the restaurants were just fine. It was a good stay, and I felt secure in the hotel at all times. It is close to the park where there are vendors, and to a craft centre which was fun to explore.
