“Great Service”

Casa Arequipa

4 of 5 stars
Alice Springs, Australia
Mar 2, 2008

Arrived in Arequipa where we were picked up by the hotel and given a english guide who gave us a talk on the town. At the hotel were personally welcomed and given cocoa tea in the beautiful foyer whilst organising our check in. The hotel organised a two day trip to the Colca Canyon which was one of the highlights of our trip to Peru. The hotel has only about 9 rooms so it was very personal and the decor was lovely. As we were a family of four we stayed in the largest room where we had two queen beds and a lounge area to watch TV, the beds were very comfortable. My only complaint would be not alot of hot water in the morning. Breakfast was included with alot of choices and service again was excellent. The staff do everything they can to help you and make you feel very welcome.

My husband and I stayed in Casa Areqipa for 3 nights, and loved it. This really is a terrific place. The staff is warm and welcoming - my husband I and were celebrating our anniversary, and they gave us a beautiful bouquet as soon as we got there. Everyone was extremely attentive and helpful, going out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed (both of us had the misfortune of falling ill, and they took very good care of us, arranging for a doctor etc). They are more than happy to help arrange sight-seeing tours, but what we really appreciated was the fact that they weren't pushy or insistent about using their services, and were ready with great advice on everything from reliable tour operators to good restaurants.
Both of us have travelled a fair amount, and I have to stay that Casa Arequipa is one of the best B&Bs that we have stayed in (and we're fussy New Yorkers!)
We highly recommend this place.

“Like staying at a friends house”

Casa Arequipa

5 of 5 stars
Dallas, TX
Dec 12, 2007

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was by far the best hotel experience we had in Peru. It's a very quaint boutique hotel, but has most all the amenities of any normal hotel. Very reasonably priced too.We were greeted like an old friend from the staff (Sylvana is great). They're so friendly, i was immediately put at ease and felt more like I was staying at a friends house than a hotel. Rooms are a bit small, but decorated very nice. We were in one of the front rooms (supposedly a little loud, but we hardly heard any noise). Breakfast is great. Very accommodating to your schedule and food preference. it was nice to have breakfast with other travelers and hear their experiences. The hotel has "happy hour" in the early evening which was nice to have a beer and talk with some of the other guests. Check out the views from the roof too.

Is it perfect? no. is anywhere? It's not suggested to walk around the area at night (which surprised me as it seemed pretty safe), but it's easy to get a taxi wherever you want to go. Other than that, I'm hard pressed to find any faults. Can't wait to go back.

“Not as great as others found but good nonetheless”

Casa Arequipa

Dec 1, 2007

We stayed here one night and it is a really nice place. I havent stayed in many other places in Arequipa so I dont know the competition but this place seemed to be in a decent area and was clean and comfortable. However I cant say its the best we have stayed in on our trip in terms of location, facilities, or design. It is great value for money but this is Peru. The best thing is the service. All staff are very nice and will do whatever they can to help. However we stayed in the room downstairs and you can see through the glass doors (albeit frosted glass) to the reception and hear any discussions going on with other guests or via phone....so not that quiet. Its not in the middle of town so you need a decent walk or cab to get there and there is not much around it of interest. Breakfast was great. All in all it is very good but I cant get that excited about it.

“Truly a Gem”

My wife and I stayed at Casa Arequipa a total of four nights in September, 2007. Three nights were consecutive while we toured Arequipa and one was on our return from a brief excursion to the Colca Canyon. We recommend Casa Arequipa very highly to anyone who likes accommodations with character, service, and value. It was one of our favorite hotels during our month trip to Peru.

We were somewhat concerned when we booked that the Casa Arequipa is about 1 mile from the town center, located in a quiet upscale residential neighborhood. However, being out from the center was not a problem – taxi’s were plentiful and cheap ($1 each way), and the staff would call one for us when we went into town and we either caught a taxi at the Plaza or had the restaurant call for one. It was just a very short ride each way or about a 15-minute walk.

The hotel is a beautifully restored and converted mansion with just six rooms. Ours (#2) was on the ground floor off the lounge area. It was very large, with two extremely comfortable double beds, a sitting area with a couch and upholstered chair, a large antique armoire, tv and minibar. The room was very tastefully decorated.

Our attractively tiled bathroom was somewhat small but adequate, with shower only. There was a single pedestal sink and not much counter space.

The large common area adjoining our room was open two stories with a large skylight. The mansion’s dining room served as the breakfast area, which was excellent – juice, fruit, rolls, and eggs on request.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the hotel was the incredibly friendly, helpful, and efficient staff. They seemed sincerely concerned with us and with our comfort, and went out of their way to make our stay in Arequipa and in Peru enjoyable. It truly made a difference for us, even though we’re not ones who demand (or even like) attentive service usually. All in all, it made staying at the Casa Arequipa the most comfortable and enjoyable hotel experience of our trip.
