Jan 2008 - The first night we arrived we told reception that we would be out for a couple of hours and our room had no safe to put our expensive electonics in. We were told the hotel was secure, and not to worry so we left for the evening.
The following morning we realised our room had been robbed, no forced entry and only a few things had been taken, things we might not notice until we had arrive back in uk or later in our trip..web cam, UK Sterling cash etc...
On reporting the crime to reception their attitude was unbeleivable! ..First they said " how do we know you had those items to begin with"..!!! After refusing to call the police we did so ourselves....The investigation is still ongoing and the hotel staff are prime suspects.
Once the police had left...we were told to pack our things and go as we were no longer welcome by the hotel.
We did so but I refused to pay the $75 for our nights stay..we were then held hostage by the hotel who refused to let us leave by locking all the exits until the police arrived again...this time called on by the hotel. The police agreed with our explanation and ensured our release...they even showed us to another hotel which was secure and close to the police station.
Apart from the robbery, the staff were arrogant and rude which spoiled what was on first imperessiions a rather attractive, clean hotel.

On January 17th, 2008, you did check in at the hotel around 2.40pm with your Peruvian female company. At 4pm you did leave the hotel, asking if we had a safe for your values, which we do. You have been informed so and, despite it, you strangely decided NOT to leave your electronics in it, and you did just leave the hotel for
the evening. In fact, you left for longer, you only came back around 2.30am, in alcoholic state.
On the following day, you reported your version of the facts around 10.30am. The items were supposed to be: one Ipod, 200 sterling pounds and a laptop memory.
After a while, you strangely decided to add a Handy Web Cam to the report. To my understanding, this is not an item that you would not notice until later in your trip (as you mention in your review), this is the item you brought to Peru that you will use EVERY day to to tape your trip memories, isn't it?).
Under the Peruvian Law, to report a robbery you must first demonstrate the actual existence of the items, this is the law, not our lack of professionalism. Again, you did not want to leave in our hotel safe, despite being informed first verbally by the front desk, second: it is informed to our guests, in every room with a document, that the hotel safe is at your disposal, for free, at the front desk, AND that the hotel will not be held responsible for any missing objects that have not been check at the front desk safe.
The investigation is NOT going on, in fact it never started, for two reasons:
1. The guests are informed about the safe and the responsibility policy of the hotel, in written form, plain English, in every room (that do now have an in-room safe now, to avoid those kind of fake robberies).
2. There were NOT A SINGLE digital fingerprint found by the police in your room other than your own ones. (all my staff have been requested to give their fingerprints).
Of course, upon your check out, without paying your bill, we were forced to hold you until the arrival of the police and our lawyer, to try to get our money . Our lawyer did recommend us to better get you out of the hotel without cashing our money and better to ensure the tranquility and security of our other guests.
