The Garden House was magnificent. Doris and the rest of the family made us feel right at home -- it was a home away from home. They were welcoming and helped us plan our trips around Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu. In addition, through our talks with them we learned so much more about Peru than we ever could have from just reading books and visiting the sacred sights. The house was beautiful, the rooms large and accomodating, and the food delicious. Our one regret is that, since we visited during the winter, we didn't get to see the garden in full bloom. We'll have to return! If you're planning a trip to Cusco, definitely stay at the Garden House.

The Garden House is the best hotel I have stayed in throughout 6 countries in South America. It is an extremely stylish family house that has been converted into a hotel without losing the comfort and homeliness of its original function. The communal areas and the bedrooms are very big and beautifully designed. Everything is set up to make guests feel at home and as much part of the family as they want to be. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners, who will offer as much or as little help and advice as you need. Both are local to the area and are tremendously knowledgeable about local places. For me they booked taxis, arranged a driver to take me around the Sacred Valley for the day, lent me local guidebooks, recommended good local restaurants, and generally answered all my queries throughout my stay. The day they planned for me by booking a driver and putting together a programme of sights was the best day of my trip - and without the local knowledge it would have been impossible to organise myself. It was also incredibly good value for money. There is no ´down side´ to The Garden House - you will be superbly looked after and made to feel that you have had a taste of Peru with really genuine Peruvian people.

“Very Comfortable”

We stayed at the Garden House in early July 2007 for the final three days of our Peru trip. Reservations were no problem via email. When we arrived (rather late in the evening due to our own transportation problem) we were warmly welcomed by Doris and her sister. The rooms are very comfortable - soft linens, clean bathrooms, and lovely views of the gardens. They provided a filling breakfast every morning, to eat inside or in the courtyard. On our day trips, they provided wonderful recommendations for sights and food, and called taxis to drive us to the Plaza de Armas.

Unfortunately, my husband became ill on our second to last night at the Garden House. Doris and her sister were very caring - making tea and toast, sending someone out to purchase Gatorade, and calling a doctor to examine him in our room. When the doctor recommended a trip to a clinic for tests, Doris' sister graciously accompanied us, reassured us of the quality of care, and attempted to help us switch our flight to Lima the next day.

Throughout our stay, we commented on how we felt like we were visiting a relative's home. We were very impressed with the comfort of accomodations and even more so by the gracious care of the hostesses. A delightful place to base your adventures in Cuzco!

My review begins with a thank you to Doris and Family who left no stones unturned to ensure our comfort and enjoyment- including and most appreciated, finding our lost luggage that an unmentioned Airline happen to misplace.

This beautiful bed and breakfast is nestled on a nicely treed hill top surrounded by a rose garden and is equipped with all the amenities and niceties of any first class American or European establishment. The bed linens are magnificently soft. Where I usually have trouble sleeping in high altitudes, I slept like a baby at the Garden House.

The made to order breakfast was delicious and Doris even prepared sack lunches for the daily excursions we took to the surrounding areas. All these excursions were carefully planned by the transportation company she set up for us. Thank you to Daniele, Juliana and Antonio.

I will definitely return to the Garden House on my next trip to Cusco!

“An Outstanding Experience ...a treasure find in Cusco.”

The Garden House

The Garden House Hotel was a most excellent find on my behalf through Trip Advisor . I stayed here for 4 nights in April 2007 .Booking and Correspondence is through Paul a family member (www.cuscohouse.com ) in the UK where you are guaranteed to have all your questions about Cusco and the Bed and Breakfast Hotel answered before you arrive .This is a family operated business where I was treated like a member of the family that had just come back to visit . The owner is Doris who is one of the most delightful and caring people that I have met on my worldly travels .She has a genuine humanitarian involvement with the needy people of Cusco . Her volunteer work is of paramount importance to her . If you want advice on what to see and what to do in Cusco /Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley she will become your encyclopedia of local knowledge . I used her location as my base to explore the Sacred Valley below which is just a 45 min drive away . My room was huge with a commanding view of her immaculate garden thus the name Garden House. Her house is located within a walled garden enclosure . This is a security controlled entrance property located not far from the airport .I was happy that I chose the Garden House for its location quality because most of the other hotels are located within downtown Cusco where the noise level is incredible at times.I This is an excellent location if you want peace and quiet after a full day of touring the area .Doris will arrange honest and safe taxi service for you to where ever you want to go . Taxi service is incredibly inexpensive in Cusco if you know the right ones to choose .Paul will arrange airport transfers for you prior to your arrival .Doris is good friends with a wonderful young taxi owner named Estoban .He took me down to the Sacred Valley for a private all day tour in his new car .We went to all the major sites that we could within a six hour period with my Cusco Tourist Card ...(buy this upon arrival at the airport to save a bundle of money as it gives you discounted admission to a large number of top attractions) He only charged me $40US but I paid him $50US because I had such a great time. with him .. he was worth every dollar as he accompanies you into the sites and becomes your personal tour guide Gasoline is very expensive in Cusco so please consider this as an incredible bargain . He was a true Peruvian family man with a wonderful sense of humor .I considered my day with him as one of the highlights of my 3 week trip .I learned so much from him in one day which no guide book can surpass .Thank You Doris for making me aquainted with this fine honest hard working Gentleman.
Your stay at the Garden House will become another Highlight of your trip ..I guarantee that ..The home is immaculate and spotlessly clean . The decor of the house is of a Spanish flavor speckeled with wonderful hand carved wooden furniture The interior tiled courtyard has a vast assortment of potted plant species .My room was comparable to a US 4 star hotel in size and ammenities .Doris will prepare you a breakfast fit for champions .My bed was a cloud to sleep on with all the luxury linens included as mentioned by a previous reviewer .The daily maid service was excellent .I spent 3 nights at the Miraflores Park in Lima at $600US per night prior to arriving at the Garden House and to me staying at the Garden House would of been worth the same rate . I would never stay at any other place other than at the Garden House when I return to Cusco ..I am one of the family now and I will return someday to visit . The Garden House is my extended home in Cusco . I miss my " family" there already . Thank you Doris and Paul for making my trip to Cusco an experience of a lifetime .
