“Fabulous”

Casona les Pleiades

Apr 29, 2008

This place was fantastic.

Firstly it's in San Blas, which is much nicer and less touristy than places around the plaza but close enough to all the regular sights. There are some great bars, restaurants and cafes around and you're not constantly hassled by people selling crap.

The building is a beautiful colonial house with rooms surrounding a central courtyard. On arrival we were given coca tea as a welcome drink. The staff were very courteous and arranged everything we needed (including luggage storage while we left to do the inca trail and organising a taxi for us at 5am on the last day for an early flight - that same morning they also made us breakfast even though they don't officially start serving till 7am.)

The room was big and en suite with a good shower. They only had a twin available for us but each bed was large enough for two to sleep comfortably. Our room looked onto the street and had a wonderful view over cusco city.

It was over our budget (we were backpacking) but Cusco is expensive in general for Peru and you can stay in far worse for far more money.

This is a brilliant hotel with loads of character. As with all our reviews, don't stay here if you like your hotels Marriot-esque (multi floor blocks with identical rooms) - this place has style, class, uniqueness and comfort all at a good price.

Will definitely stay there again.

“Casona les Pleiades was charming and delightful!”

What a great find! Casona les Pleiades was charming and affordable, and the staff was tremendously helpful. We felt right at home here, aclimating to the altitude before our trek to Machu Picchu, and recovering after the hike. The rooms facing the street gave us some great views! Only two downsides: sometimes the nightclub down the street played loud music late into the night, and the steps up San Blas were exhausting (but good preparation for the Inka Trail). Great place overall. Highly recommended!

“Charming and quiet”

Casona les Pleiades

Mar 5, 2008

We stayed here three nights, then traveled to the jungle for a week, and came back to Cusco and stayed here another night, we loved it so much! We were able to store most of our luggage here while we were in the Tambopata Reserve, which we greatly appreciated.

The hosts/owners are extremely friendly and very helpful with travel planning, and the employees are the same. The rooms are very charming, with probably the most comfortable beds we had on our trip. Breakfast was good and plentiful. The location was excellent for us...in the San Blas neighborhood, not too far from the main Plaza (so not too much huffing and puffing to get up the hill to our hostel!)

Prices in Cusco are more than in the rest of Peru, but we thought the price of the Casona (around $40-$45) was adequately priced for the amentities and the neighborhood.

A great, quiet, comfortable little place!

Beautiful accomodation in a nice house with beautiful furniture.
Melanie and Philippe the hosts are very nice and accomodating.
Nice American Breakfast. Location is great just behind San Blas Church and 5mins walking distance to Plaza de Armas.
Could not fine anything better in Cusco.

“Delightful find; Great value!”

This little boutique hotel was absolutely lovely. Located right in the middle of the San Blas area (which is the only part of Cusco that we liked - very bohemian, funky and happening) just a block from the San Blas plaza, it was so pleasant that we ended up staying a full week.

As you can see from the photos I'll post with this review, the rooms are decorated very nicely. The beds were big and comfortable, and the showers were hot - although at times they were unbearably scorching hot, so be careful, I wouldn't recommend it for children!).

We stayed in a room that faced the street and had a fantastic view right over the whole of Cusco and to the mountains behind. If you are a light sleeper though you may want to ask for a room set off the street, as there is a pub next door that blasts live music out well into the night. We were there for new years, so the night extended to morning...

There was also a roof-top deck where you could chill and enjoy the mountain air. The next-day laundry service at the hotel was cheaper even than the laundries in town, which was extremely convenient. The taxi called for us by the hotel to take us to the airport was even cheaper than the ones we called for ourselves off the street - so refreshing to find a hotel in Peru that does not rip you off at every chance available.

2 things that come to mind that could have been better:

- the staff spoke no English... although I know that the owners speak good English; unfortunately they were on holidays when we were there and the staff persistently tried to communicate unessential information to us in rapid and complex Spanish;

- the ceiling in the room in which we stayed was on a slant, which was very aesthetically pleasing, but which had the unfortunate consequence of us hitting our head (often quite painfully hard) every time we used the bathroom. We are not tall, but you would have to be a child not to hit your head in that place. If you are tall, I would suggest asking for a room off the street.
