I stayed for two nights in March 2002. I am an anglo-american, but speak fluent spanish. The hotel is decent and the rooms are comfortable. It has a casino, and is well secured with visible security staff and video cameras. The first thing I noticed when I arrived was that the staff was conspicuously less friendly than the staff at Hotel Las Americas. On my first morning at the hotel, I awoke to discover that all the cash ($250) had been removed from my wallet. Nothing else had been taken. I called the front desk, asked to speak to the manager, and asked to be connected with the tourist police to report the theft. After 4 hours, and three calls, the manager decided to make an appearance. In the meantime, I had discovered that a glass panel which overlooked a floor-height roof, was in fact a window, which not only could be opened, but could not be locked. I guess noone had noticed this before. The manager agreed to replace all my cash, and did not require any documentation (gracious there), but refused to review the security cameras which could identify anyone leaving the area of my room during the time period of the theft. I was then moved to a much smaller room, with no reduction in room price, and was treated poorly the rest of my stay. I was insulted in Spanish by the front desk staff as I checked out, as if this was an elaborate scam on my part. Will never stay in a Best Western Anything, as long as I live.
