A friend and I shared a room at the JW Marriott in Lima for a total of 3 nights - 1 at the beginning of our trip and 2 at the end. We booked the stay using Marriott points.

The hotel was great, and very refreshing after our trips around the country where we stayed at more budget-friendly hotels. Of special note, we were able to check in early (around 11am) after our early morning international arrival. We also had access to the concierge lounge (I am a Platinum member), and it was one of the best spreads I've seen at a Marriott. A full breakfast, tea, and light dinner buffet was offered, as well as 24 hour drinks and snacks (nuts mostly). The doormen were very friendly, and offered suggestions and tips for getting around Lima.

However, if you are looking for a hotel to "experience Lima", this is not it. Signs are in English, many business travellers, etc. The surrounding area, including the shopping center across the street, seems made for tourists. But, if you need a place to relax after some hard travels, this place is great.

My only other cautions would be... Don't order the Marriott car from the airport. It's $36 and you can get a Green Taxi for 45 sol just fine (published rate). When going from the Marriott to the airport, they can call you a Green taxi in advance, which we were told would take about 30 minutes to arrive. Also, though they'll push the Marriott car to get around town, if you ask they were also very helpful in flagging us a taxi from the street that was "safe" and taught us what to look for.

Also, We had the concierge look into some city tours etc. for us. Depending on the tour, the prices were sometimes over double the tours offered at the travel agency across the street at Larcomar. That said, the one tour we did book through the Marriott (to Pachacamac) was first class all the way, whereas the city tour booked across the street left something to be desired (half the 3 hour tour was spent sitting in traffic).

Final tip, if you want some good ceviche for cheap, ask for directions to the Punta Azul restaurant about a 5-10 minute walk away!

“Great Location”

My mother and I stayed at the JW Marriott in Lima at the end of April. The hotel is very well located in the Miraflores section of Lima across the street from the ocean and a nice shopping center, Larcomar, which is full of upscale shops, fast food, (even a Dunkin Donuts, for those of you who are Dunkin coffee fans), chain restaurants and a few nicer restaurants . The hotel itself is very impressive. The lobby has big glass windows that look out over the ocean. The hotel boasts a view of the ocean from every room, and our room had a small sliver of ocean view but the windows themselves were huge and wrapped around one corner of the room, giving an interesting panorama of the city. The room itself was spacious and contained all of the standard JW Marriott amenities. The bathroom was also very roomy with a separate bathtub and shower stall. All of the hotel staff we met was friendly and courteous. Our breakfasts were included in the price of the room and featured a full buffet with hot and cold items, including a nice omelet station that served one of the best eggs benedict dishes I have ever had. We didn't eat lunch or dinner at the hotel, so I can’t comment on those. We did eat at a restaurant called Mangos in the shopping center across the street and our meal was excellent. I would definitely recommend the JW Marriott if you are traveling to Lima.

We stayed in both the Miraflores and the JW Marriott during our stay in Peru, hence we can compare. Our experience in the Marriott overall was excellent, which in part was due to the ability to have a late check-out at 8PM ( we are Marrioot preferred members, however) for our 11PM retrun flight to the US.Our room was big, not one with a full frontal ocean view, but all rooms have a view, and one doesn't have to crick ones neck to see the ocean. The bed is as comfortable as one can expect in the JW Marriot, a king size and fluffy.. The bathroom is big with separate shower and tub, all well maintained and updated. We had to use the business center and were charged a ridiculous US$5 for 15 minutes internet access (the charge is $5 per 15 minutes). One can have breakfast until 11AM, and the quality is outstanding. The buffet is quite extensive. and If in no hurry, it is a good option for a late breakfast/brunch. It is difficult not to overeat with so much choice.Service overall is excellent. When compared with the Miraflores, the latter caters more to the more affluent traveler and, hence, you will not find amenities such as an in-room coffee maker there e.g.. The JW Marriott, Lima is an upscale version of a very reliable hotel chain and it is located directly accross from the Larcomar shopping center, with eateries etc. Both the Miraflores, a stone throw away, and the Marriott are a 45 minute ride from the airport. For short transfers in Lima one could look at options closer to or at the airport, but if you are staying in Lima for 1 or more days, the Marriot is an excellent place.

This is an excellent hotel in Miraflores quarter of Lima, with views over costa verde beach area. The rooms are not great but comfortable and the restaurant is excellent but expensive. The service is good but not exceptional. It is quite impersonal and the bar area is not great, but has live bands some evenings. The location is what makes this hotel not the service or the facilities...you can walk to great restaurants and night life within minutes...but dont expect the hotel to inspire you or give you a real Peruvian experience.

“Great hotel.”

JW Marriott Hotel Lima

Mar 2, 2008

Just returned from 2 nights at the JW Marriott. Great hotel. Location is excellent. Ocean views from rooms are spectacular. Service was polished and professional. Breakfast buffet was amazing and the most complete I have ever seen. They served the only good cup of coffee we had in 3 weeks of travel in South America. I would return tomorrow if I could.
