“NOISY”

Faraona Grand Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Springfield, Virginia
Apr 8, 2008

We stayed a total of five nights at this centrally located hotel in Lima, Peru. The hotel is clean, the rooms are a fairly good size. BUT we were on the street and the noise was outrageous. The worst part was the car alarms which go off all night and day, apparently in Lima no one gets a ticket for excess noise. That kept us awake. Plus, there was no heat in the room and the a/c unit made a big open gap in the window which let in some very cold air. This was in May, which is fall in South America.

“Great customer service”

Faraona Grand Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Houston, TX, USA
Feb 18, 2008

Two friends and I stayed here in January 2008. We stayed here as our primary launching point to and from Cusco. The hotel is very nice and the customer service was spectacular. Check-in, wakeup calls, baggage handling and courtesy were all top notch. One caveat is the language barrier. I speak some Spanish and if I didn’t, I definitely would have faced some communication obstacles with the staff. Although some of the staff speak limited English and are ready to assist, speaking Spanish definitely helps.

The rooms are nicely sized – not too big and not too small – and have great A/C units to keep cool. The bathrooms are spacious and all have hot water. One of the drawbacks is that there are only 2 computers in the hotel and they always seemed to be occupied.

The location is situated right in Miraflores, but I can’t comment on how close it is to major attractions because we didn’t do too much site seeing in Lima. Although traffic in Lima is an absolute nightmare, cabs are readily available and cheap. The hotel is close to some pretty fun bars and clubs too if you want to party it up for the evening and don’t feel like taking a cab. Also, it’s close to some small restaurants if you get hungry and want to go somewhere close.

Pros:
Great customer service
Good location in Miraflores close to some clubs, bars and restaurants
Strong A/C units for the hot months of summer
Upscale ambience

Cons:
Limited Internet access
Over 60 minutes from airport in traffic

“Excellent Location”

We arrived late at night and was glad to be greeted by the friendly staff. The room is pretty basic, but quite comfortable compared to the other 3 star hotels we stayed in throughout Peru.

The TV is mounted from the ceiling, but most channels aren't in english anyways. We kept the channel on CNN, but there's other english channels such as MTV and HBO.

Water in the room is S/.7 which is 3 times the price if you just go to the little shop next door or across the street. The bathroom was clean and we always had hot water when we wanted it. There's also a hairdryer for your use. There's also a safe in the room, but you need to ask for the key at the front desk.

The hotel provides 2 free internet connected computers which we never had to wait too long for. The pool on the roof isn't much of a pool, but just a little puddle of water. We never used it.

Breakfast was decent. Eggs, bread, ham, cheese, and various fruits.

The hotel location is excellent. It's only 1 block from the middle of Miraflores which is a very safe area of Lima. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby.

“Reasonable”

Faraona Grand Hotel

It is a reasonable, 3 star hotel in a rather quite central location (Miraflores). Clean. The rooms are not great but reasonable. Be sure to get the interior rooms, otherwise they give to the street and it may be a bit noise, the wondows are very low quality.

“Excellent location, avoid dining”

This hotel as an excellent location just off Parque Central in Miraflores. Rooms are big enough size, with decent bathroom. In August/September the bar (where you drink your welcome drink (Pisco Sour)) and the dining area gets so cold, you need to wear a fleece. Therefore (and because of the out of tune piano) you'd better and go and dine somewhere else (e.g. La Trattoria down the street). The roof top pool did not contain any water when we were there, but looked it could be nice in summer. Bottled water is supplied in the bathroom, but you have to pay for this separately (7 sol, in a shop this would cost you 2 sol). The free internet access is of decent speed, and if you use it to check in for your flight, you can e-mail the file with the boarding pass to the front desk, and they will print it for you.
