The first things I look for in a hotel, and this shows my bias, are quiet, good internet connection and good food. Lima must be one of the noisiest cities in the world, constant car alarms, keyless door entry beeps and motorist blowing their horns.
I stayed at this hotel for a week in September 2006.
I stay at this hotel in Lima as it is the quietest hotel in Lima. The only problem is it is quite a bit outside of town. It takes about an hour for me to get to my office in San Miguel and an hour in heavy traffic in Lima with a bad taxi driver probably takes a couple months off your life.
Checkin was good and quick. They gave me an upgrade to a penthouse room, number 1601 but as soon as I entered the room I reaslised why they gave me an upgrade. Directly above my room was a pump room – it was so noisy. The spooky thing about this is that they actually rent this room and consider this acceptable or that they don’t bother to put the pump room somewhere else. I asked to be moved and they said the next day so I suffered a sleepless night. The next day they moved me to room 1105 which was smaller but still a very large room. Unfortunately there were two young guys next door who acted as if they were on spring break. Also, between my room and the next there was only a connecting door which did not help in stopping any of the noise. I asked to be moved again each day and each day they said they were fully booked. I don’t know if they were fully booked, they just couldn’t be bothered or had decided they weren’t going to move me, either way I was left with the option of moving to another hotel or suffering it. As I was too tired to go looking for another hotel I just suffered the nightly racket from the party boys next door but it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
Another annoyance was the piped music in all the corridors, just not necessary and the car alarms from the carpark downstairs.
Rooms ending in xx08 are on the far side of the hotel overlooking the pool so these rooms should be very quiet, however the last time I stayed in a room like this the internet didn’t work and there was a bit of noise from the elevator which runs on one side of the room. Room ending in xx05 or xx06 have an adjoining door so you may get some noise from the person next door. The other rooms all face towards Lima.
The rooms are very large which I like but they put the cheapest furniture into them. One thing I like is that have a kitchenette which consists of a microwave, a kettle, a sink, some plates and cutlery. Some rooms have spas and the deluxe rooms like 1601 have spa and sauna. The windows are thin and cheap which I really didn’t like – they are a bit like a shower door but don’t seal which lets in noise and some outside air. There is airconditioning and heating. When I was there it got a bit cold some nights and the heating was useful. Some nights there was no hot water however every morning there was hot water.
The food was good. Room service was limited but good. The internet connection was also very good which was a welcome surprise.
The cost was US$143 per night, plus US$10 per night and they didn’t charge any taxes on this so I felt the price was reasonable.
To summarise
Good – food, internet connection, some rooms are quiet
Bad – some rooms are noisy, it is a long way from town, some staff are not interested.
I would stay here again as I haven’t been able to find another quiet hotel in Lima.
