“Beautiful, Unique, Noisy”

We spent a total of three nights in Lima at this lovely B& B. I will start with the positives. Second Home is a truly unique place. It is very much like staying in an art museum or gallery, as others have said. We loved the works of art, gardens, and architecture. Also appreciated were the helpful and friendly staff, the breakfast, and the spacious, clean, updated and well appointed rooms. On the negative side: the noise. Out of three nights, only the second one was quiet enough to get a good night's sleep. The area, Barranco, is full of clubs and bars. Second Home is tucked in a cul de sac, which is quiet enough, however, many guests of the inn come in at all hours. We could hear them talking, laughing, shutting the door, and walking on the hardwood floors. If you like to party and stay out late, this is the place. Barranco, and other parts of Lima, apparently, are very much for the nightowls, as we noted on our taxi ride to the airport at 4 am: the streets were full of people! So, I would recommend Second Home-but with a caution.

What an incredible place. The profusion of sculptures and art by Lilian's father render the establishment a living museum and what a privelege to stay here. It really is an oasis in Lima & well worth the 50 minute trip from the airport (& the extra 10 minutes past Miraflores, where most tour operators overnight their clients ).

The only very slight downside was that Lillian's staff do not speak English & we speak little Spanish, but they were sweet when we arrived & directed us to a wonderful restaurant less than 5 minutes away for a brilliant evening meal in very attractive surroundings.

To summarise: Staying here is an experience not to be missed, & what is more it is very good value for money. We cannot recommend it highly enough & cannot understand why it is not No 1 in Tripadvisor's listings

This is the only place I would stay in Lima. The ocean front location, rooms, and amazing artwork made everything perfect. American travellers need to understand however that it is a privilege to stay in the family home of Peru's most famous artist.

“It's like living in a piece of art!”

It took us awhile to locate this gem tucked away down a non-impressive sidestreet, but once inside it was a secret paradise. The handmade iron gate swings open and you are in a secret garden hideaway. Lilian is a very gracious hostess and she will ask for your trip plans, nod, and then give you her opinions on what is best, safe, and worth your while. Look to her for handmade maps, restaurant suggestions, and any questions you might have. She speaks fluent English and has a great sense of humor. One of my only regrets is that we didn't have more time to chat with her. Lilian is the daughter of Victor Delfin, the artist who used to live in the impressive Tudor-style mansion. His artwork is EVERYWHERE!!! Everytime you walk into a space or garden you will see something you didn't see the first time. The views are breathtaking. No matter how many photos you see, you will still be taken aback by the beauty and vastness of this place. There is no air conditioning, but in late April with the windows and door to the terrace open we were quite cool. Even if you choose not to stay here, you should contact Lilian and see if you can tour the grounds of this living gallery.

“Great Place to Stay”

My wife and I are middle of the road travelers and booked the hotel because of this website. We had great weather the two nights we were there so the location right on the water was excellent. The house is much bigger than you think after looking at the website, it just keeps going and going. Lillian was very nice, but not overbearing and we loved the help as well. The breakfast was perfect size for us and coffee was really good. Seeing the art work all around the house was amazing, it really is a special place and so cheap at under $100 a night. The thing we liked most about the hotel was the location of Baranco. If you walk out the front gate and turn left you are in the middle of the district and many good places to eat are within a couple minute walk. If you dont stay at this hotel, stay in Baranco.
The only bad part was the wetness and the noise, but we were ready for this after reading the reviews on this website. I brought eat plugs which i used throughout my trip (there is no insulation in any house or medium range hotel in peru) so the noise problem is not just this hotel. As far as the wetness, you are on the beach with and unconditioned room, what do you expect. Also, internet works in the room which was great. For the price you can not beat this place in Lima.
