“Good hotel and the location fantastic”

We traveled here after the Hiram Bingham train journey which was fabulous. We had a private guide which was much better as there was only the two of us so we would recommend people take that option. The staff and hotel were fantastic and very friendly. Just what would be expected of a hotel in this chain. It was my 50th birthday and they made my stay very special. It is worth the money as you have to admit location is everything.

Booked a mountain view room through Amex Platinum travel. Was able to occupy room after our arrival at the Lodge at 1PM from the Hiram Bingham train. All food, drink -plus massags for 2 were included in our package. We also got a 4PM checkout the following day( checkout is 9am). Our HB train package included a 3 hr tour of the MP site and an afternoon tea at the Lodge. If you can pay the price--This is definitely the way to travel to MP!!
BEWARE--the mosquitoes at the MPsite are verocious--You must bring deet or other bug spray to put on arms and legs--
Also, bring sunblock and a hat for protection-

“Worth every penny!”

Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge

5 of 5 stars

We stayed at the Sanctuary Lodge earlier this week and would say it is worth every penny!!! Yes it is expensive but it's all about location, location, location.

We had just completed the 4 day Inca Trail Hike ending at Machu Picchu and I can't tell you how good it was to be able to walk straight out of the gates at MP straight into the hotel. We were exhausted and the rest of our group was envious that we did not have to tackle the bus and train down to Agui Calientes until the next day.

We checked in and were taken straight to our room where we had a nice room and lovely sun terrace. The rooms are not massive but they are luxurious. We had nice big beds, a lovely shower and nice little luxuries such as dressing gowns and slippers. It may seem expensive to stay here but it actually doesn't work out to be very expensive in the end. We were told that lunch, dinner, breakfast and all drinks including alcohol and the min bar were free.

After doing a two hour tour with out tour guide we went into the hotel and had the best showers we had ever had, bearing in mind we had only washed in small bowls of cold water for four days! We then had an amazing 3 course meal in the restaurant at lunchtime and again at dinner. If you add up what all the meals cost on the menu it appears that we actually ate more in food than we had paid for the room.

We would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone but especially weary people who have just finished the Inca Trail. We were in room 339 and it was very peaceful.

“Great location and staff”

Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge

Yes this is a very expensive hotel, but it is probably one of the best you will find in Peru! The staff we excellent and made us feel special from the moment we arrived and that any request would not be too much trouble. The hotel is not flash but very comfortable in the best location you could ask for when visiting Machu Pichu. We had a room with mountain view which had patio doors leading our onto the lawn and wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. I would recommend these roome as the other generally appeared to have no view other than a wall and would have been a big disappointment to us had we stayed in one.
The restaurany was excellent with very good food and very well trained staff. Although the price of a room here is expensive all food and drinks are included so eat and drink well to ensure to have your monies worth. We arrived late during the day having walked the last part of the Inca Trail as a result of which the hotle allowed us to make use of its facilities including food and drinks until our departure the following day at 3pm.
If you really want to treat yourself to something special whilst in Peru then this is the place to do it so push the boat out and enjoy!

“Avoid Room 21”

Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge

4 of 5 stars

We were lucky enough to get a reservation at the Lodge after being waitlisted. Unfortunately, this probably meant that the people who booked before us were bumped up to the better rooms. We had a standard room which was fairly small as expected and it did have an unexpected view of the Huanyna Picchu peak. There was, however, a big problem with the room (#21). It is situated directly above the hotel kitchen and the kitchen exhaust fan duct runs up the same wall as the bed headboard and discharges directly over the room It literally vibrated the room and sounded like a helicopter going over. After some discussion with managment, the fan was turned off for the evening, but obviously this was not ideal for the running of the kitchen. And it started up again at 7 am!

On to the good stuff. The food was very good and it was really great that drinks were included (provided you were drinking local wine and spirits, which were excellent). Service in the restaurant was efficient and the band were very good. We even bought their CD. It was very pleasant to be able to relax in the terrace or in the day room and they even called up to the day room to let us know that afternoon tea was being served.

The whole area is very quiet once the site is closed for the evening. Very peaceful. I did get up for the sunrise and was surprised how many buses from the town had arrived prior to the 6 am opening time. It was probably more crowded on the best veiwing terraces at that hour than we we arrived at 1 pm the previous day!

I would recommend this hotel if you want to be close to the ruins and relax but request a room other than #21 (or #19 next door).
