This hotel is located approximately 5 KM from the seaport. The hotel staff was courteous when we arrived during the night, and some receptionists speak English. My first impression is that the room and the hotel struck me as a hotel for business travelers (comparable to some that I visit for work). The room was very clean when we entered and spacious (comparable to hotels in the US).
Our floor was on the 6th floor and the one thing we noticed is the noise from outside can be heard through the windows, so it is advisable to bring earplugs (Note: this will become worse during the day [construction was underway across the street] so if you plan to sleep in, plan ahead). The bathroom is stocked with shampoo and soap, but no other amenities (such as lotion or mouthwash); however, the tub in our room also included a Jacuzzi. The room also had a small kitchenette and a mini-bar with a nice selection of sodas and beers (but surprisingly, no price list in the room). The room also has climate control, an in-room security safe (free of charge), and the television receives BBC and dubbed or subtitled US programs.
The hotel offers parking free of charge if you have a rental car and if not, you can rent a car from the desk (however, the price is quite hefty – 75 USD). Breakfast is good (a selection of pastries, cheeses, fruit, yogurt, juices, and coffee) and is served until 1030 or 1100, depending on the day. The hotel has a small internet centers for guests during the day and early evening hours (however, the hotel is next door to an internet café). Also, the hotel is walking distance to many good restaurants and parilladas (although be advised, if you are unfamiliar with the streets, you will need a map or take a cab to return as the streets can be tricky). The area is relatively safe (I did not feel threatened walking the streets but as always, be mindful of your surroundings at night).
This hotel is a good place to stay when you are getting your feet wet on your first time to Montevideo. The hotel is located about .5KM from the Rambla (the beach walk) and within walking distance of good restaurants and shopping. If you plan to do day trips to Punta del Este or Colonia, and then return in the evening to feast on the meats at local parilladas, this hotel is a perfect place to stay.
