The hotel itself is great - on check in we were upgraded to a deluxe room which gave us access to the champagne and canape service; the rooms are well appointed and all in all it was a very relaxing holiday, but there were a number of niggling things that pushes the Outrigger down a couple of points.
Food - definitely overpriced and largely quite bland. Play spot the difference between Mongolian BBQ and pasta by the pool; pay over the odds for an average steak and (admittedly, good) chips; enjoy a bland pizza. If you are going to heed management's warning posted at the exit's resort about eating in local eateries, then don't bother with the food package, otherwise it's probably worthwhile.
Service - intention is all very good but execution is really poor. Order a couple of Diet Cokes at the pool bar and still be waiting for them half an hour later. Offer to take them yourself and be told they'll be along in a moment... a long moment.
At check-in... expect to spend 20 mins as the receptionist multi-tasks her and her colleague's job as she forgets your name as she writes out your meal vouchers.
On check-out, expect pretty much the same.
At the pool, don't expect to get a towel... and if you trek to reception to try to work it out, don't expect them to be able to deal with anything but a simple request.
Don't expect your champagne and canapes anywhere near to the advertised time.
Gym - fairly well appointed but no water. How many five star hotels do you know where you have to buy water as you work out?
If you do choose to eat outside the hotel, then Le Cafe, just to the right of the beach as you look out to sea does cheap, if small dishes for F$7 and cheap beers at happy hour from 5-8.
Won't be rushing back to the Outrigger.
