Stayed at the Country Inn & Suites/Panama Canal at the end of a week deep in the interior. The hotel has a good location at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. It fronts on a popular bike & walking pathway that leads out onto the Causeway, with it's beautiful views of the City, and many restaurants. We didn't rent a bike, or trike type bike for two or three, but we saw a lot on the path and they seemed to be having fun. The Inn itself was clean, but getting a bit ragged, with threadbare carpet on the stairs. The rooms were simple, but clean, and there was plenty of hot water, and great water pressure (rare in the interior). The staff were very attentive, and all spoke English well. They have free internet access at their four computer terminals. [don't know abt wireless] The attached restaurant, a TGI Friday's had good food, and you could sit outside, and watch the ships entering the canal.
We stayed two nights at this Inn, and had one day to explore the Canal, and it was nice not to have to fight our way thru the city traffic to reach the canal. We left for the Tocumen airport early in the AM, so we missed the morning traffic. Be sure to take the Corredor Sur toll-road to the airport, it's clear sailing in the morning, as the main traffic is heading in.
We rented a car for two weeks to get around. Be VERY CAREFUL when you pay for the "full coverage" insurance, we found that although we paid over $200, we weren't covered if we were the victim of a hit & run, or if we hid an immobile object, or if we rolled over!! (not quite sure what it covered)
To help get around we found this map to be very helpful
