“Decent hotel Great view”

Country Inn & Suites Panama Canal

May 24, 2008

Stayed at the hotel for 1 night upon my arrivel in Panama, as it was my first time in Panama the opportunity to stay in a hotel alongside the canal was very tempting for me. The hotel is OK you can see it is there already for a while. Reception girl was nice and check in went smoothly. The room was OK, and the view marvelous. I loved seeing the ships go by. I ate at the TGIF and sat outside. that was a mistake because I got bitten 3 times by flies. The breakfast was good. In the morning the hotel taxi brought me to Albrook domestic airport which is 10 minutes. I asked for a receipt but the driver told me he forgot them. I told him nevermind because it was only 8 US$. To my surprise during the checking in for my flight to David he turned up again with a receipt. He went back to the hotel to get it for me. Great service

Spent one night at the Country Inns and Suites Panama Canal. It was pretty average.

Booked the room directly with the hotel and check in and quick. The room itself was quite large and had wireless high speed internet. The room was clean and had a large balcony. There was a large pool.

The shower temperature was very hard to regulate. The air conditioning was very uncomfortable as there was not any automatic regulation. The was room service available from TGIF which wa pricey. The buffet breakfast was poor.

The location is very good for going to the Miraflores locks at the Panama Canal.

“Loud and not close enough to the city”

Country Inn & Suites Panama Canal

Apr 16, 2008

The rooms in the this hotel are great, we loved the view of the canal and the pool is very nice. But the location is quite isolated - to get into the city you have to take a cab, too far to walk.. We have also (in 6 months of travelling South America) never come across such rude front desk staff. The breakfast is pretty average as well. The worst thing though - the reason I would never stay again - SO noisy!! You can hear doors slamming until late in the night, and then again early in the morning. Maids up and down the halls, people talking, etc - they should REALLY sound proof these doors! I am disappointed - for the price we paid I thought it would be a better place to stay.

“Great view”

Country Inn & Suites Panama Canal

4 of 5 stars
Reading, England
Apr 6, 2008

Good position right on the entrance to the Panama Canal and worth paying a little extra for a Canal view room but beware that some have restricted view because of a large tree in the grounds. Rooms are very reasonable and good condition. The staff were helpful and spoke English on Reception. There are plenty of taxis at the hotel and you agree a price when you get in them. The doormen are very pleasant and will call one to the door when needed.
The restaurant attached to the hotel is a TGI Fridays which is open all day and the food was very good. The service is a little slow but that is to be expected anywhere, you're on holiday! An acceptable buffet breakfast of cereal, toast, juices, beverages, ham, breads/croissants, scrambled eggs and another hot dish is served in the hotel from 7 a.m. to 9.30 a.m (10.30 at weekends). There is free internet access. The swimming pool is warm with a good size childrens pool and jacuzzi. The only downside was the sunbeds had no shade. Too much for most British people! There were tables and chairs with sunshades on the other side of the pool however. I think if there were more children staying it could have been a little noisy in the corridors as the other guests didn't seem to keep them quiet! Although out of the city centre it was no problem getting there if needed.

“Great location to explore the canal”

Country Inn & Suites Panama Canal

4 of 5 stars
Bellingham, WA

Stayed at the Country Inn & Suites/Panama Canal at the end of a week deep in the interior. The hotel has a good location at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. It fronts on a popular bike & walking pathway that leads out onto the Causeway, with it's beautiful views of the City, and many restaurants. We didn't rent a bike, or trike type bike for two or three, but we saw a lot on the path and they seemed to be having fun. The Inn itself was clean, but getting a bit ragged, with threadbare carpet on the stairs. The rooms were simple, but clean, and there was plenty of hot water, and great water pressure (rare in the interior). The staff were very attentive, and all spoke English well. They have free internet access at their four computer terminals. [don't know abt wireless] The attached restaurant, a TGI Friday's had good food, and you could sit outside, and watch the ships entering the canal.

We stayed two nights at this Inn, and had one day to explore the Canal, and it was nice not to have to fight our way thru the city traffic to reach the canal. We left for the Tocumen airport early in the AM, so we missed the morning traffic. Be sure to take the Corredor Sur toll-road to the airport, it's clear sailing in the morning, as the main traffic is heading in.

We rented a car for two weeks to get around. Be VERY CAREFUL when you pay for the "full coverage" insurance, we found that although we paid over $200, we weren't covered if we were the victim of a hit & run, or if we hid an immobile object, or if we rolled over!! (not quite sure what it covered)

To help get around we found this map to be very helpful
