What a gem of a place - we booked after the recommendations here and the brief write-up in Lonely Planet, and without a doubt would stay here again in Split.
The location is perfect, and yet (with windows closed) it wasn't nearly as noisy as we had feared. The rooms are a bit small - we had an extra mattress for our daughter which made it rather cramped - but the little seating area in a nook helped make up for this, as did the pristine decor and the nicely decorated bathroom. (A previous reviewer mentioned no aircon, but perhaps they didn't look for the switch?! The aircon was perfect especially after walking around in the July heat...)
The hotel is perfectly situated both within Dioclatian's Palace and literally a couple of minutes away from the ferry and both bus terminals (airport bus is literally a minute's walk).
While we were absolutely charmed by the location and the hotel itself, the service undoubtedly propels it into the 5-star review we gave it. Some examples: not only did the guy park the car and fetch our suitcases out of it, but he also removed the bag of trash from the car and threw it away!; while we were waiting for our room (we arrived earlier than check-in time) I asked if we could get a sandwich from the restaurant for our daughter who was hungry - well, they do not have sandwiches on the menu but made her one anyway!; and when at dinner (where the food was excellent) we requested a half portion for our daughter on one dish, they not only obliged, but also charged exactly half the main course price when most restaurants charge about 75%. We also liked the small gesture of the complimentary litre of mineral water in the bar fridge being replaced every day, also in my experience pretty unusual.
All in all, a lovely couple of days here and we would recommend it to almost everyone - the exception being that both the location in the palace and the lack of an elevator (though there are only 3 floors anyway) would make it unsuitable for mobility-impaired persons.
