“Didn't meet expectations.”

Hotel Ivan

We stayed at Hotel Ivan for 4 nights/5 days. We didn't choose this hotel. It was chosen for us by someone else. After looking at the website for this resort, I was really excited, but when I arrived, it didn't meet my expectations. The first problem, if you are an American, is that you are allowed to smoke anywhere. The lobby constantly smelled like an old bowling alley. It really was disgusting.
The second thing is that the rooms are small. This is not unusual in a European hotel, but the problem is with the decor. Nothing has been updated since the 70's, which means that it probably has never been updated. The sheets are scratchy, the blanket had stains, and the pillows were lumpy. VERY LUMPY!! I ended up barely using a pillow, and sleeping on top of my travel blanket with my husband's travel blanket on top of me. The beds were really bad.
The lobby was nice, but not anything to write home about. The food was ok, but then again, it's a European buffet.
The pool is beautfiul and so is the view, but the waterslides were closed down while we were there, so that was definately dissapointing. The nightlife was generally ok, if again, you don't mind the constant billowing of cigarette smoke around you.
Overall, it was just an ok experience. Nothing to write home about.

“Nice but too quiet”

Hotel Ivan

3 of 5 stars
Sunderland
Apr 9, 2008

Hotel overall was nice, lacked organisation when checking in but that's due to our tour operator just dumping us (would name and shame but i can't remember who it was).

Hotel itself felt a little dated but was nice and pleasent, we stayed during the the European Football Cup finals so the atmosphere was good.

Generally I would say this was geared towards a dutch/german, few staff members were fluent in English (or understood much of it), this caused a problem on day one as we ordered a pizza but the order wasnt taken, simple language barrier problem but it knocked our opinion of the resort.

Besides bad weather making the trip a little boring, we go on sun hols for the sun afterall, we found the complex quiet and ended up going on a lot of excursions to fill the time.

There is very little to do in the surrounding area.

Later in the week we found out it wasn't "in season" by the man who runs the bowling lanes, just before we left the place picked up and it was much better.

Overall, it was tidy, clean, food was excellent (most memorable part) but too quiet for us.

“Hotel Ivan”

Hotel Ivan

Sep 3, 2006

Just returned from Sibinek Croatia, after spending 2 weeks there.
Stayed at the Hotel Ivan on the solaris resort, we didnt actualy want to go here but as there was problems with room availability at the hotel we booked originally we picked here because it looked nice in the brouchures and looked suitable for kids.

The first day there my daughter fell in the pool , she didnt know there was a step in the pool as there were no warnings to say so, there were no warnings anywhere around the pool either and it was rather tatty looking too with tiles falling off, and poor lighting. It was unsafe and you would really have to keep your eyes open if you are travelling with very young children. there were drops off the sides with very sharp edges.
We were travelling with another family, there were 7 in our party,4 adults and 3 children aged 10 ,8 and 7.

Our room was basic and we had 2 single beds and a double sofa bed, when we went to get the sofa bed out it was broken and not suitable for sleeping on, we then had to try and get another room sorted out so we could get the children to bed, and at 9.30pm this is not what we all wanted to do.

we had asked for rooms close to our friends and was about 5 rooms away.

The staff were very freindly though ,but took ages to get any service, and after you did you would have been lucky to get another drink for about an hour, if at all.

The hotel inside was very clean and I would not fault that, it is a bit out dated on the outside and I think it needs to be modernised.
the pool area needs to have safety warnings around it and a couple of lifeguards would be a good thing as there are not any, when we asked our tour rep from airtours she didnt know of any life guards about the resort, which is terrible as the sea just drops before tour feet. we actually found 1 life guard, but he was in the bar.

The resort is beautiful but you are about 5 miles from Sibenik and you can only get there by the solaris bus which will cost you about 10 kuna each and its so cramped you cant move , the other option is taxi and this will cost you 100 kunas.
but Sibenik is beautiful and lots of lovely resturants and bars and lots of shops.

There is not much night life at the resort, they have a night bar that shuts at 2am and the other bars shut about 1am. if it rains they cancel the entertainment because most of it is held outside.

The food in the hotel is the same every night, but there is quite a bit of choice to choose from, but not much if your a vegetarian, which I am, so ended up witt the same meal every night.
there are other restuarant on the resort and again not much choice for me.

I wouldnt go back to the hotel Ivan or solaris, but I would definalty go back to Croatia its a beautiful country and there is so much to see and do.
We did have a good holiday just a shame we were so far out.

“Not for the 20's”

Hotel Ivan

Hotel Ivan is not the best hotel I've ever stayed at to be fair, if you are quite well travelled, think you would be dissapointed. Also if you are in your 20's, don't expect any night life in Sibenik or at the resort, it is mostly catered for families and when we stayed, there were hardly English speaking guests there, so making friends is completely out of the question. Most guests are Italians, Croatians and Germans. Staff are generally friendly though.

Split and Trogir is much nicer to see, but not stayed there myself, so not sure how's everything else is.

“Ivan doesn't deserve 3 stars”

Two nights at the Ivan were two nights too many! Nice setting, nice grounds, enormous and lovely pool. But maintenance of the property is definitely lacking ... when the elevator decides not to work (a problem carrying luggage to and fro from the third floor); and when the toilet seat falls off; and when the balcony door doesn't shut; and when the air conditioner fails to work; and when... well, you get the point. Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be many other places to stay around Sibenik. A better stop probably would have been in Trogir. However we were on a tour (Vantage Tours) and had no choice.
