Although we didn't stay at the Leopolis, I would like to make a strong recommendation to consider the Leopolis when you stay in Lviv. We stayed in another highly rated hotel, the Hotel Opera. It was excellent as far as the room and breakfast was concerned, but it lacked service for the American traveler. In fact they were indifferent.

It can be difficult for English speaking tourists in Lviv. We were lucky to speak Polish which was very helpful. Since the Cyrillic alphabet is used, that poses another obstacle. You need a hotel with a concierge to arrange opera tickets ($15 for a loge seat), guides, answer questions, etc. We stumbled upon the Leopolis our first morning and were warmly greeted. They helped us with a fantastic private guide ($60 for over 4 hours). Their hotel restaurant is exquisite, and a 3 course prix fixe dinner is about $20.

Lviv is an undiscovered gem of a city. It rivals Prague. But it is necessary for American tourists to have the support of a good hotel. Consider the Leopolis. Next time we are in Lviv, we will stay there.
