My wife and I stayed at Thong Bay Resort after reading a few good reviews about it. We absolutely loved it! The owners, Phillip and Lay are incredibly friendly and helpful, as are the amazing staff. "Ti" and "Pheng" were especially great.

Besides the incredible service, the attention to detail and the architecture of Thong Bay is wonderful. Situated just outside of town (perfect for my wife and I, and just a ten-minute tuk-tuk ride to town), Thong Bay has quaint bungalows, a few of which look right over the Khan River. Others face an inviting garden courtyard. Delicious meals can be served in the courtyard, in a small restaurant area, or right on your private porch as you sit on comfortable Indonesian-style pillows.

My wife and I will definitely come back here the next time we're lucky enough to get to Laos and Luang Prabang!

This is very idyllic and atmospheric place. We were fortunate to stay in one of the lodges overlooking the river and the village on the other side which was a fantastic view.

The lodge was huge with a kind of four poster double bed and two singles. There was also a fridge in the room, plenty of storage space and a big bathroom with a good powerful shower. It is probably one of the prettiest places I have stayed.

Breakfast was delightful, you order it at reception and they make it freshly for you and bring it to your door in the morning at whatever time you want. Staff were incredibly friendly and they also have a bar type area near reception. There were no safes in the lodges but you can put things in a locker near reception.

The only downside is that the guest house is located a 15 minute ride out of the centre of town down a hilly/pot holey dirt alley way. Getting a tuk tuk back did not cost much but some tuk tuk drivers would be reluctant to take us because they knew that the road was very bad and some tried to charge us more for it. We even had one tuk tuk which broke down half way up the hill and we had to get out and walk for a bit.

We stayed here as part of a tour group so can't really comment on value for money but am guessing that it was not too expensive.

We were lucky to spend 5 nights at Thong Bay Guest House last December. It is the most amazing little place to stay.

We had a bungalow on the river, with beautiful views of the farms across the water from our huge balcony. The balcony was private and peaceful... a great place to have breakfast every morning. The gardens around the bunglows are wonderful too, and offer lots of little places to just relax or share one of the yummy meals.

The rooms are also beautiful, decorated with silks. The bungalows are spacious, and the bathrooms are huge and bright. The rooms are kept clean and are very comfortable. All the staff at Thong Bay are excellent. Very helpful and always friendly.

The guest house is a little way out of town, but we didn't find this a problem. A tuk tuk ride into town takes just a few minutes and costs 20000 kip or US$1. Or you can easily walk into Luang Prabang in about 30 minutes.

We were thrilled with our stay at this guest house, and can't recommend it highly enough. We hope to visit again really soon.

An incredibly charming oasis with a friendly and accomodating staff! Bungalows overlooking the river are enchanting. We would go back there in a heartbeat!
