Myself (32) and my boyfriend (39) chose to stay at Le Royal Meridien in Dubai for two reasons:
1. We had stayed at their sister hotel, Le Meridien Mina Sehayi, 2 years ago
2. Our friends had stayed at Le Royal Meridien last year
We arrived early, around 9am and there was no problem with checking in despite their usual check in time of 12pm...or is it 2pm? Can't remember, either way we were early and I was dreading having to wait around for a room when all I wanted to do was unpack and get my bikini on!
When we checked in we were asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and when we told them it was a belated birthday treat we found a birthday cake and some chilled sparkling wine in our room that evening.
We had booked a Club room which was clean and comfortable although I felt the decor was a little dated - the Tower rooms are alot more contemporary. However we didn't experience any problems with the room - there were clean towels morning and evening, housekeeping were prompt with supplying us with ironing facilities and collecting/returning our laundry, a daily newspaper was always hanging on our door early in the morning and our bed had always been turned down upon our return in the evening.
Note:
i) Men can wear shorts to Le Meridien Mina Sehayi Club Terrace but have to wear trousers at Le Royal Meridien Club Terrace
ii) Internet service is available within the Club building at Le Meridien Mina Sehayi but not at Le Royal Meridien Club building
By day we found the pool/beach service excellent - cold towels, frozen ice drinks and cold water sprays were regularly distributed and a waiter service for food/drink is available so you don't even have to leave the comfort of your sunlounger.
Loved the camels on the beach!
In the evening we usually went out of the hotel, however on our first night we ate in Prime Rib - great service, fantastic steak and lots of it so don't eat too much during the day!
We also visited another of their sister hotels, Grovesnor House - I would say it was more of a business hotel, but then I'm a beach hotel junkie! Highly recommend The Buddha Bar (smoky but funky!), Bar 44 (fantastic views of Dubai) and Mezzanine (Gary Rhodes restaurant - fabulous food)
Other places we went (in case you're interested!):
The One & Only Royal Mirage - we had drinks in the rooftop terrace bar (lounge away!) and then ate in Nina (Indian with a twist - lamb dish was to die for)
If you need to stretch your legs try the Madinat - an area in Dubai that you can actually walk around! We went to:
Jumeriah Beach Hotel's 360 Bar - this is a rooftop bar and sundown is a must but be warned if you go in the hotter months the temperature is still hot at this time (6.30pm ish) so wear cool clothes, preferably in dark colours!
Meat & Co - we took a golf buggy and then a little boat from 360 Bar into the Madinat area and decided to soak up the alcohol with a burger from Meat & Co - best burger I've ever had!
Al Qasar Hotel Pierchic Restaurant - a fabulous seafood restaurant located on the end of a pier - you have to book this a few weeks in advance!
Montogomeri's 19 Restaurant - probably not the first place you would think to choose as it is located on a golf course but as we have friends who live out in Dubai they are regulars at this restaurant and after having a meal there we understand why - outstanding, mouthwatering food
All in all a fantastic holiday (albeit it damned hot!) and already planning on revisiting in October/November...I can't wait!
