My wife and I are just leaving the Miramar this morning. It has been a lovely evperience. The staff have been exceedingly friendly, and even help me with my Spanish. The facilities are lovely, if you like clean modern lines. If you're into antiques, this is clearly not the right hotel. We got an excellent deal on an executive level room, including desayuno. A small warning. All executive level rooms are smoking rooms. I said in my reservation that non-smoking was the most important feature for us. The desk clerk suggested that we try the room. He said the hotel was so new that we probably wouldn't have any problems with smoke in the room. We have very sensitive noses - but he was right. We enjoyed the room for several days. Our only encounter with smoke was last night when our neighbors were smoking on their balcony. As the hotel gets older, this is clearly not going to work. We've stayed in hotels where smoking rooms were converted to non-smoking, and we can always tell. Beware of that little detail. We reserved our rooms through the Starwood Preferred Guest web site. All was perfect with the reservation.

We are SPG Platinum members, so this review is for SPG members in particular, but is useful for anyone really. We probably stay here once every 2-3 months. Overall, we really like this hotel, so any negative comments here are more so annoyances than real complaints. We really love this place. Here is the review:

We are in Vina right now staying at the Sheraton Miramar. Very nice hotel. SPG level is nice. Larger rooms are 524, 525 and 502. 521 and 522 have a larger balcony, but a bit of an odd configuation since they are on the corner. I like the larger balconies though. I would go for 502 given the choice - 524 and 525 overlook Wulff castle, but get traffic noise.

Level 7 and 8 have suites, but both are smoking levels. :( 701 and 801 have nice views back to Valpo, but are more like Junior Suites (really not that much bigger than what you are going to get on the SPG level.) In fact, I think they are smaller than 524, 525 or 502. 801 has a bigger balcony than 701.

The suites you want, if you can get them to give them to you, are 808 and 709. These actually have separate rooms.

Again, floors 7 and 8 are smoking.....I am in 701 right now and have "febreezed" the crap out of this place, yet everyday I have to do the same thing. I am very definitely sensative to cigarette smell though. The carpet is also very dirty and the couch is in need of replacement (cigarette hole and did someone spill a whole bottle of red wine on this thing???) Someone apparently threw a party in here and practically destroyed the place.....it looks a lot more worn than any of the other rooms we have ever gotten here.

It seems like the front desk is really reluctant to give you a suite unless you specifically ask for it (as a Platinum upgrade I mean). I guess there are only really 2 real suites, and 2 "junior" suites, so apparently they hoard them. More than a couple times we were told there were no suites available for upgrade, but then they suddenly "became" available as soon as we figured out they were in fact available.

All rooms have ocean views.

For SPG Plat gifts, the bottle of wine and cheese at the Miramar is really super nice. We thought we would get a couple cubes of cheese, but got an entire plate of different cheeses, crackers, olives, prosciutto, turkey, salami. The champagne and chocolate sounds good too. This is one place I would get the gift instead of the 500 points.

Parking here at the Sheraton Miramar is $3,300 CHP (about $7). We always valet, but I don't know why.

Pool is nice, but can get crowded on weekends. It is oddly filled with salt water. You can also swim in the "ocean pool" below - basically a naturally (? at least it is meant to look natural) formed ocean pool complete with seaweed and freezing pacific waters! If you can handle the temperature, go for it!

Fitness center is really pretty darn nice - it is a Balthus. They use "techno-gym" equipment - Italian brand - never seen it in the U.S. They have an aerobics rooms and classes, spinning room and classes. The work out area is also ample and pretty large compared to most hotel gyms I have seen. Probably one of the best I have seen really....ocean views to boot!

My one complaint - there is no co-ed hot tub. There are luke warm hot tubs in the locker rooms for each gender, but the closest they come to a co-ed hot tub is an indoor pool that is heated.

It is a bit of a walk to go eat outside the hotel as well. If you don't mind taking a taxi down to around San Martin, no problem. On the times we have eaten in the dining room, the menu food has been excellent. We had a buffet on the Chilean Independence Day that was pretty lousy, but then again, Chilean food in general is pretty tasteless when prepared in its traditional form.

The Sheraton Miramar was a fantastic surprise. We travel often to Chile and the beautiful seaside town of Vina del Mar. The hotel is fairly new and we didn't know what to expect. Turns out to be an incredibly sleek, modern and well appointed hotel with an oustanding location on a bluff jutting out into the ocean with spectacular views. The ocean seems to surround the hotel with views north towards Vina and south towards Valparaiso. The rooms are large, well furnished with all modern amenities including a fabulous large flat screen TV, huge stone and tile bathroom and private terrace overlooking the sea. Outstanding find.

I was staying in a very old hotel in Valparaiso, during the night I read in a local magazine that they opened a new hotel, the Miramar. Next day I rushed to check the hotel, and I was so impressed by its modern architecture an location that I decided to stay. Even though the price was over my budget the over all experience was amazing. The rooms are big, specially the bathroom with a rain shower and a separate bathtub surrounded by huge mirrors. All the bathroom walls are made of marble. The elevators are an amazing ride, they have panoramic windows to the outside, and the doors are made of glass, wich was all new to me. The Miramar design resembles a luxury cruise ship, and it feels like it. All rooms have a view to the ocean. From my room you could see the Viña del Mar city, and it was amazing during the night. They also have a pool made of rocks next to the ocean, the water is very cold, but they also have two other pools, one of them indoors, great sauna and spa too. They even have a public beach next to the hotel, but you have to leave the hotel to get there. The Miramar is just great, stay there you will love it.
