“Loved it. Sad to leave”

La Residence d'Angkor

My wife and I stayed in La Residence d'Angkor for 6 nights in May. We loved it and were sad to leave. Across the board the staff were fantastic. Everybody from security guards, porters, grounds people, room cleaners, reception, bar, waiting and shop staff was exceptionally friendly, helpful and courteous.

Unlike other places on our trip there was no expectation for tips. Any given were appreciated and graciously accepted even if only one dollar.

The rooms are well maintained, equipped and finished, very comfortable and spacious. The hot water plumbing is a little quirky but nothing to get upset about. The hotel itself is relatively small and intimate.

Our biggest problem was a rather noisy bullfrog who croaked through the night. When we mentioned it we were given a new room away from the pond immediately without any fuss.

We were also impressed by the fact that although the hotel was being closed for renovations, due to begin the day we left, the professionalism and courtesy of the staff never wained.

The service and ambience in this hotel is better than any I have stayed in.

The restaurant is a little expensive relative to downtown but given the impeccable service this is not a major complaint.

This hotel is a credit to the hotel staff, the manager, Siam Reap and indeed Cambodia. The tourist industry at home and elsewhere would do well to learn from La Residance. We just loved it and were really sad to leave.

“Loved the Ambience”

La Residence d'Angkor

My husband and I stayed at La Residence for three nights during April 2008. We were met at the airport by a very efficient chauffeur and whisked back to the hotel to be met by cold towels and a cold drink. Very welcoming. Check in was a breeze and our room was lovely. Solid wood everywhere and a lovely cool, cool room with the biggest bath we have every seen. Wonderful after visiting all of the sights of Angkor Wat. We were on the ground floor overlooking the pool but with all of the lush vegetation we were not overlooked. It is in a prime situation by the river and just a short walk from the centre of town. Breakfast was great and dining at the hotel was an unforgettable experience. Great food! We would certainly highly recommend this hotel.

“Charming Hotel with Fabulous Service”

La Residence d'Angkor

Mar 23, 2008

My husband and I had a fabulous stay at this hotel in March 2008. On a 2-week trip to Southeast Asia, this was our “splurge” hotel, and well worth it. The rooms were spacious and very well appointed. The huge bathtub was a welcome respite after days of trekking around temples. The service was impeccable. Massages were offered in the room. Our room had a balcony overlooking the gorgeous swimming pool, which is one of the only 2 saltwater pools in town. Since it’s too hot to sightsee for a few hours at midday in Siem Reap, the swimming pool was a relaxing way to spend our afternoons. On our final night, we also enjoyed an Apsara Dance performance over dinner in the hotel. Though there are bigger hotels in Siem Reap, this one has a lot of charming appeal and attention to detail that would be difficult to find elsewhere. The only downside to the hotel is that it charges for internet access, it doesn’t offer food after hours and the dinner menu is somewhat overpriced. But it’s also walking distance from the center of town, so you can always grab lunch or dinner or get internet access there, if need be. Also, don’t be put off by its location on the east side of Steung Siem Reap. Siem Reap is a very small town, and distances are pretty short. It really feels like you’re in an oasis in the middle of everything.

“A little gem”

La Residence d'Angkor

Feb 9, 2008

I stayed at La Residence d'Angkor for five nights. If only I knew how great this hotel is, I would have planned to stay longer just to enjoy it more.

If I had to review this hotel in one sentence I would say "it proves that sometimes smaller means better".

La Residence d'Angkor is small, but the quality and the luxury you can find there is hard to find elsewhere. It is a relatively small luxury hotel, built to respect the cambodian tradition and to provide all the comfort and luxury of a five star hotel at the same time.

The common areas like the reception and the restaurant are very fresh, built to let air flow in and out and so different from many "international" luxury hotel where you feel to be in an airport.
One of the thing I enjoyed the most is the very elegant use of wood everywhere. The whole reception area is wooden, the floors in the rooms are wooden. It keep the spaces fresh despite the heat and humidity of cambodian weather.

The rooms are decorated with great style and choice of color. The mosquito netting hanging over the bed is great -- we didn't have any mosquito problem at all, but the netting looks very colonial and romantic at the same time. The bathroom, that is separated from the room by a wooden partition, is absolutely great with huge tub two people can comfortably take a bath at the same time.

The pool area is just wonderful. The pool has the same proportions of the pools that you see at the temples and it is surrounded by lush plants. Too bad we had to see all the temples and we didn't have much time to enjoy it.

The breakfast is also great. The buffet is not as big as in the "airport style" five star international resort, but it more than compensate with the quality of the food offered. I found the croissants and the other pastries especially exceptional, I couldn't stop eating them, and at the end I would also take some with me for the day. I live in France and I would not hesitate a minute to say that the pastries offered at the breakfast would easily compete with the ones prepared in France by professionals.

Overall really a small but great place. Oh, I was almost forgetting. Also the price was quite a bargain, compared with the others resorts of Siem Reap.

“Only one thing spoilt our stay at this fabulous hotel”

La Residence d'Angkor

Jan 26, 2008

We stayed here for four nights and in the main only have good things to say about it.
The room was beautiful with a lovely large bathroom and lots of room for our luggage.
The hotel was generally quiet with only about 50 rooms and generally felt calm and relaxing.
Please see the hotel pictures as it really is beautiful in a delightful understated way with a great pool area.
The bar was also lovely though not well frequented and the drinks at happy hour were not too expensive.
Location wise its an easy walk into the centre of town so there is no real need to eat in the hotel. However one night we did so we could take advantage of the free cultural show. The food was expensive for the area but very good and the show was excellant so overall it was good value.
The only gripe I have against this hotel is that on our last morning we were told the restaurant area outside was full and that we would have to sit inside. This was not the case. There were at least 10 tables free when we arrived and still 5 available when we left. Everyone else who arrved after us were asked(right next to our table) their room number then asked if they wanted to sit outside. The only thing I can think is that on that morning the hotel was busy and they wanted to save tables for people who had booked with big tour operators rather than direct as we had. There certainly wasn't a single large group in. Whatever I am guessing. To have been treated so badly rather marred what had otherwise been a wonderful stay.
