“Good location, fair price”

The 4 star Somadevi Ankor is well located, easy walk to most of the good restaurants in town. The 5 stars places tend to be out of town. We paid US$90 for a "delux" room for two with breakfast (a good one, buffet). This is well below the posted rate but was arranged by out tour guide. He told us that the Guides association has some special deals in several hotels. The savings more than paid for the guides services. I recommend a room at the back of the hotel, overlooking the pool. That is a quiet location with a good view if a high floor.

Our guide, Saron, was truly outstanding. There are plenty of guides available but I can't imagine a better one. One of his happy customers set up his web site as a courtesy. Please see
http://www.sarontours.com/saron.htm You will not go wrong.

If you are interested, ask Saron to take you to one of the water well donated by foreigners. When you see how much benefit this can be to the people, you may be inclined to donate one as we did.

“Good Hotel for the Money”

Somadevi Angkor Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Prospect, Kentucky

The property is still working out a few kinks here and there, but for the most part our stay was pleasant. Our room overlooked the pool area, which was very nice (although there was a great deal of viewable (and quite noticeable) construction going on next door during the day. The beds were undersized but, then again, I'm a 6-5 American in Cambodia...The service was excellent in and around the room and down at the hotel's dining hall. Breakfast and dinner were not bad. If you do stay here, do yourself a favor and take advantage of the foot massages at night. If I recall, correctly it was $15 American Dollars plus tip for almost a full body massage (even though they advertise it as just foot).

We had a private tour guide and shuttle, so I really have no idea how convenient the location is or the cost for getting around Siem Reap. Regardless of how you travel to Angkor Wat, it's a straight shot from the hotel, into Siem Reap's center, and then on to the ruins.

Drinks at the bar closes to the pool entrance were very reasonably priced (like everything else in the country), with an assortment of beers on draft (including Tiger) and several premium spirits. Make sure you bring American Dollars. You can use the local currency, but it's much easier to get around and pay with greenbacks.

“Suitable stay for Siem Reap”

Somadevi Angkor Hotel

I stayed at the Somadevi for 4 nights as a solo traveler in November 2007. There appeared to be many new big hotels in Siem Reap on the long road into town from the airport. Somadevi is one of them.

PROS
-Good location in Siem Reap on one of the main roads and within walking distance to some good restaurants, internet cafes, a relatively well-stocked market, shops and other hotels
-Beautiful large swimming pool and poolside service
-Impressive lobby with local wood-carved furnishings and other local decor
-Hotel tuk tuks readily available for hire
-Free lobby internet access
-Free buffet breakfast--an elaborate spread including fresh fruits, choice of cereals, yogurt, eggs, French toast, bacon, sausage, potatoes, made to order eggs, large selection of local cuisine--served in a large restaurant that was kept fairly clean by half a dozen or so staff
-Clean room with comfortable bed
-Large, comfortable furnishings
-Clean, nicely appointed bathroom with shower stall and separate bathtub also equipped with a shower head; good assortment of bathroom amenities
-2 free water bottles per day
-Mini fridge
-Helpful/friendly bell staff with decent English
-Concierge desk will arrange bus tickets, tours, etc. I got my Mekong Express bus ticket to Phnom Penh from the concierge and was satisfied with how quickly he got my ticket and the price
-Hotel set back from the street so no street noise inside
-Security guard presence on hotel grounds

CONS
-I had difficulty communicating with the desk staff about anything beyond check-in/check-out business; the language skills of the bell staff were much better than those working the front desk
-Came back early from touring one afternoon and found a male hotel staff (I assume since he had a pass key) just leaving my room who appeared to have no particular purpose being there...no cleaning cart in the hallway, I hadn't reported any problems with the room, he wasn't carrying any supplies. Was I being paranoid? Maybe.
-The hotel's internet access was down for much of the time of my stay

“Worth the price”

Somadevi Angkor Hotel

With around U$50 and get a good location hotel (ard 10 min walk to old mkt), plus up to standard cleaness, I can said it is worth the price.

As for the breakfast, normal and nothing special, but who care as there are so many restaurant and cafe in siem reap.

The best part that I would like to highlight is that although I the stated check in time is 2pm. Due to the morning flight and so I arrrive in the morning around 9, they allow me to have a early check in after half hour wait, at around 9.30. Use these
waiting time go to Blue Pumkim for breakfast.

I would like to recommend this hotel to people who like to visit
Siem Reap, and surprise that there is so few comment on this hotel.

Great location in Siem Reap for eating out in the evening and visiting the temples. Nice, quiet pool and well appointed rooms. Helpful staff. Don't use the overpriced hotel internet.
