“Nice respite”

Viroth's Hotel

Jun 7, 2008

Viroths is a soothing respite after the intensity of Angkor Wat. The rooms are decorated in a minimalist style, which actually is a great contrast to the sights, sounds and smells of Siem Reap. The staff were cheerful and helpful, and very accommodating to any requests we had. The salt water pool was great to relax in after long days at the temples. As mentioned in previous reviews, the margaritas created by the bartender were the best I have ever had – be prepared to wait though, as only fresh lime juice is used. The fresh fruit, juices and croissants available at breakfast were a perfect start to the day. For those needing access to internet, there are plenty of internet cafes near Pub Street in town, within walking distance or a quick tuktuk ride. We enjoyed the proximity to town without the noise and traffic. There was construction occurring across the street which would be distracting if spending time there during the day. Since that wasn’t the case with us it wasn’t much of an issue.

I stayed at Viroth's for 4 nights while I was in Siem Reap. It was such a quiet and elegant, yet funky retreat after a long day at the temples or wandering the markets. I was so pleased to call it my place while I was there... everyone was so accommodating and friendly, and the salt water pool was nice (if lacking privacy). I couldn't have been happier.

“petite but lovely”

This review is dedicated to their friendly yet helpful staff, owner and the superb minimalist approach to the hotel/room design.

The hotel is petite but lovely with a salt water swimming pool, rooftop bar/dining area, jacuzzi (didn't get to use it though) and wireless connection, if you need one. Say and Sokha have been very helpful and accomodating to our request each time. Since there are ony 7 rooms available, most of the time, we feel as if we were the only guests (eventhough it was not) and every evening after the temple tour, we enjoyed a very peaceful time, having a glass of wine, while swimming or chit chatting by the pool.

Went to their restaurant as well, which is located at about 10mins walk away and their food was the best we had throughout our Siem Reap trip. Breakfast was served hot, simple but tasty at their rooftop dining area.

The only complaint I have is the in room shower, which was weak and the temperature was pretty hard to control. If there is a fridge in the room then it will be perfect for a cold drink after the overwhelming heat during the temple tour.

Couple would appreciate it's open concept shower in the room, but it might be a bit inconvenience if you are sharing the room with friend or family.

“Modern Simple great”

Great hotel, about a 10min walk downtown eating area, 5min walk to their great restaurant.Rooms were very large- and the bathrooms were great- 2 sinks, separate area for toilet, shower was huge and modern. Big fan in room and AC that did work. We stayed for 2 days staff was very helpful and the 2nd day booked a car service for us after a horrible experience with our guide the day before. The breakfast on the top floor was nice and the services of the on site spa were very reasonable. Pool looked nice and clean. In room safe which was nice- my mother is going to Siem in August recommended she stay here great overall!

“Nice room but hotel with basic facilities”

Viroth's Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I stayed at the Viroth in early May 2008 for 3 nights and this is my review.

1. Room cost USD70.00, very comfortable. I stayed at room no. 7, the only one with a view of the pool.
2. The staff are very helpful and nice, just like other Cambodians.
3. They only have one mini lounge cum breakfast area at the roof, serving drinks and breakfast.
4. Breakfast was the same everyday but very good.
5. Don't expect all day dining as their restaurant is 10 minutes walk away. Good food and reasonable pricing, a combination of fusion.
6. They have a small pool right in front of the reception.
7. The only disadvantage is they only have internet connection from 7.00pm till 7.00 am daily, AND no PC facilities for you to use. So, if you can't live without one, bring your own laptop.
8. Do not expect 5 star hotel facilities as this is a 7 room mini apartment-turn-hotel, so there's no gym or business center.
9. They have an open spa-massage facility at the roof, massage cost about USD20 - 25 per hour. Unless you are really a sun lover, have your massage very early or later in the evening or else you'll be burning under the sun. Didn't try it so can't say if it's good, BUT you can also get very good massage elsewhere and a reputable massage center will have their car send you back.
10. They have tour packages but a check with a local guide proved that I got it half the price outside and she was extremely knowledgeable and good.
11. The hotel provides pick up and sending to/from airport for USD10.00, and if you have a guide with a driver, they can also do it as a package.
12. Housekeeping on time, room well cleaned daily.
13. Suitable for couples or friends travelling together, they will charge another USD30.00 for an extra mattress.
14. All beds are King size beds, they don't have separate twin beds as in other hotels.
15. Toiletries facilities very basic.
16. Television with cable channel, selection of shows are sufficient.
17. Phone is only for intercom to reception, I belive you'll have to make international calls at the reception itself.
18. Not so suitable for those traveling with children.
19. Shower is slow and the water either comes very hot or very cold, so you'll have to figure out how to jump in and out of the shower at times, and there are no doors to shower. However, for the shy ones, it's well hidden. Toilet with door so don't worry.
20. No minibar in the room but bottled water is provided daily.
