“a relief from hosteria torres del paine”

Hosteria Pehoe

We were staying at hosteria torres del paine, which was way overpriced (food, room etc.) We came here for a gorgeous view, very friendly people, cheap internett/satellite tv (it was the superbowl-the only satellite around) and delicious reasonably priced food. I cannot speak for the rooms but the location is beautiful and very very very desolate- an 8hr bumpy ride from punta arenas. The people here made our day!

“Great Location, Needs Updating”

Hosteria Pehoe

We had not originally been booked into this Hosteria and were not impressed initially. However, the location and views are stunning, especially from the Dining Room and public areas. We spent ages just sitting and looking at the weather changing over the Torres. However, the rooms are very varied. The "standard" rooms are barely adequate with no views, little space and a very basic bathroom. The staff were OK with some being more friendly than others. The food was fine.
There are treks locally but better ones further away. Transport is essential as it is in most parts of the Park.
All in all OK, but better to try for an upgraded room!

“Breathtaking view, isolated location”

The view from Hosteria Pehoe is breathtaking. The restaurant where all meals are served has large windows and I enjoyed the wonderful view at all meals. See my photos for evidence! Most rooms have good views.

My room was of average standard, bathroom was small. If you have no hot water in the bathroom, call the reception, they may have forgotten to put the heating system on. This problem was repaired within 15 minutes after I contacted the reception.

Breakfast was poor, mostly sweet things available. Nothing fresh. The only kind of bread was two small slices of toast. Dinner was okay.

The problem with the hotel is its isolated location. If you are on a tour it doesn't matter because then you have transportation. Also, if you have a car, then you are ok. Otherwise you have to use either the very limited bus connections or the very expensive transportation offered by the hotel (like more than 100 USD for one return transportation within the park). Reception staff didn't know much or wasn't willing to tell about the buses. After catching one bus it is possible to ask the driver but this requires basic Spanish skills.

The hotel is located on a small island connected by a walking-bridge to the mainland. The bridge was a bit scary as it could be in a better condition.

It might be a good idea to stay here two or three nights, and the other nights at Hosteria las Torres and Hosteria Grey if you have time.

The area close to Hosteria Pehoe was extremely windy during my stay. At some points the wind was so strong that it was like a wall and I had to turn back from a couple of walks.

“A pleasant surprise”

Hosteria Pehoe

Having read the reviews I was concerned about Hosteria Pehoe and tried my best to get a switch. I am so glad I did not succeed. The views from the Hosteria are amazing and not to be missed. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and went out of their way to assist me - a single female traveller - even making sure that the captain of the local boat knew which sailing I was coming back on from my hike to Lago Grey glacier so he could keep an eye open for me. Everything in the park is expensive - its a long way to bring everything thing and the hosteria could do with a bit of a makeover, compared with Hosteria Rio Serrano, but my superior room was tidy and clean. The bathroom was small but adequate. Food was ok. The park is huge and because all driving is on gravel roads it takes a long time to get around - it's a good idea to stay in 2 or 3 hosterias to save on the travel time and cost.

“Pleasant Surprise”

When planning my trip to Torres del Paine, I read all of the reviews posted here. I made a mental note to stay away from this hotel based on these reviews. However, they happened to be the only hotel that had availabiltiy and bothered to respond to my inquiries.

My travelling companion and I were booked into a "Superior" room. It was basic, but a decent size and it had a beautiful view. The room was very clean and the bathroom, while small, was clean, tiled and perfectly acceptable. The hotel staff that we dealt with were fairly friendly, but not overly gracious. However, I will definitely say that they were much nicer to deal with than I expected. The breakfast (included in the $260.00 per night rate) was nothing impressived, but dinner was actually pretty tasty. Dinner cost each of us about $25.00USD per night.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel to others and I would stay here again. I do highly recommend having your own rental vehicle while in the park so that you do not have to deal with the hotel's transportation services (reported to be expensive) or the park busses. Don't come here expecting the Hyatt Regency for the price you will pay, but considering the limited number of choices in this remote area, it was a pleasant experience for us.
