We negotiated with a taxi driver to take us from the airport to the Hotel for 100 Yuan. We had been told to do this, otherwise the 45 minute trip would run around 200. Check in was OK but late found that booking directly on the website cost us about 200 per day more than what others had paid via travel agents.
There were three repairs needed in the room upon check in. TV would only get 3 channels. Shower was aimed up and the turn off button in the closet did not work. All these werer repairs promptly when I requested it. There were two room problems that could not be fixed. The door to the balcony could not be latched closed from the outside. so it needed to remain ajar in the 35 degree heat. The other problem was in the design of the shower. Even when closed there was a wide gap that allowed shower water to spray out to the bathroom. Floor always wet after shower.
Here is a bit of a mystery for an Hotel that calls itself 5 star and aspires for 4. The AC is shut off centrally at about 1 or 2 AM.
The pool was grand except that the signature waterfalls and meandering stream were not on. We asked the towel guy how long it had been off and he said about one month.
Some of the boats advertised for rent we not working. The guy at the water sports shack said it was due to the Typhoon that had passed a few weeks ago.
Only two of the four elevators were running.
We were one family among perhjaps 50 staying in the resort on the weekend. We checked in on Wednesday night and we may have been the only guests that night as I saw no others in the restaurant. This is low season and perhaps that is the reason for the features not working. Nonethless, this is not nearly 4 star level, even on Chinese standards.
The beds were comfortable but the turn down service on Saturday night was a surprise since we had not had such service Wednesday thru Friday.
I had a Thai massage in the Spa Garden and it was one of the best I have had. Well worth the 488 they chaged me.
The beach is very nice and quiet. We would prefer to have service brought to us on the lounges. Instead we had to trek to the beach bar to order. They did bring the ordered things to us but they were not at all attentive to needs of guests on the beach. I walked to the Shereton beach and noticed that the longes had a service request flag that guest could raise to get a waiter to come. That would be a good idea for Gloria to consider.
All in all we wished we had choosen another resort but we were mostly comfortable and enjoyed Sanya. By the way there is a new Italion restaurant in Town "Roma" Food and service was good, waitress from Italy was delightful.
