“Loved the Marriott!”

Hurghada Marriott Beach Resort

5 of 5 stars
Cork, Ireland
Jun 29, 2008

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at the Marriott for a week last August. We had already done a four day Nile Cruise(fantastic experience) and had spent three days in Cairo(where we contracted severe food poisoning). Needless to say, we were delighted to get out of Cairo and arrive in Hurghada.
From the moment we arrived at the Marriott, until the moment we left, we had the most fantastic time. The reception staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the reception and lobby area itself was gorgeous. Very bright with high ceilings and beautiful decor. Our room was very comfortable, the bed was the best I had ever slept in. The view from the room was breathtaking, it was like a picture postcard. The staff in the hotel were lovely, and were not pushy or constantly asking for 'baksheesh' unlike staff I had come across in other Egyptian hotels. Everywhere we went in the hotel we were greeted with smiles. The Italian restaurant was lovely, we ate outside by the beach, which was lovely at night, and the food was divine.
The main restaurant was great for breakfast, with just about every foor you could imagine, and there were always plenty of tables available. We never ate there at night however, as it was buffet and we had had enough of that on the Nile Cruise.
The beach on the hotel and the private island was great, there were always sun loungers available and the water was clean and very refreshing.
We went on a snorkellig trip organised by the hotel, to the Giftun Islands, which was quite cheap and very enjoyable. We also went quad biking which reception organised for us and that was great fun.
All in all, the hotel was fantastic and so relaxing. The night life there wasnt exactly great, but it would suit a family. We ventured into Hurghada town a few times and found it quite dirty and tacky. The restaurants in the town were generally awful and the bars werent much better, although we found one or two nice bars such as Hedkandi Beach bar which was pretty cool, and Papas Beach Bar was also good.
I would reccommend the Marriott to anyone, especially for those looking for a relaxing holiday, and I will definitely return again, although this year I am going to try El Gouna and see how that compares

“Excellent Hotel”

Hurghada Marriott Beach Resort

Jun 22, 2008

I love this hotel. It is the best hotel in Hurghada. The service is perfect. Food is extremely delicious. Activities are so many. There are lot of things that you can do while staying at this hotel, Tennis, Squash, Billiard, Beach Volley ball, Table tennis, Diving snorkeling etc...

It's the best hotel where you can enjoy your vacation with the family.

I was so lucky to attend the Annual Party of the Hurghada Marriott. It was wonderful.

“Simply the BEST!!”

Hurghada Marriott Beach Resort

5 of 5 stars
West Sussex
Jun 21, 2008

I'll keep this simple....

Excellent hotel that has it all, the complete package!

(As my husband and myself are experienced divers, we gave the onsite dive school a miss as they seemed to be geared up for predominately Russians and Germans.... We used the totally excellent Undersea Adventures based at the Hilton Resort. They have British instructors and guides).

Would we return? definitely.. already booked for sept 08!

“Good and bad”

Hurghada Marriott Beach Resort

3 of 5 stars
Copenhagen
Jun 20, 2008

Stayed a week at this well rated hotel and enjoyed it to large part. What was concerning was thought that staff in stores and the hotel was quite mixed. Here are a few examples:
- Ali Elbakri, Bell Captain helped us book an "all inclusive including tickets to all attractions" excursion to Cairo with a so called guide named Refeat. Despite being very expensive, we accepted as we expected quality to follow. It was after all the bell captain at a 5 star hotel. It turned out to be a big scam, and reading the Lonely Planet it became painfully obvious that it seems to be the most common scam in Egypt (we experienced similar at the Nile Hilton in Cairo). As it is so common it can only lead us to believe that it is seen as generally acceptable by the hotel management teams in Egypt.
- We looked to purchase a Scarab to my girlfriends mother and went to the Book Shop. The asked for 40 Euro which we thought was stiff and when we left the store keeper said that it would be bad for us to buy it somewhere else, which we thought was extremely strange. We later checked the Fayrouz Gallery where higher quality Scarab was priced at 8 Euros. Some difference. We believed that we got good relations with the very friendly and seemingly honest owner, Mahmoud, and bought a few more items there. To our disappointment his store at the airport sold the same goods yet at half the price.
- Housekeeping entered the room, despite us having put the "do not disturb" sign.
- At the luggage drop at the airport there was a bag boy standing next to were we dropped our bags showing a small bill in his hand asking for tip for doing nothing, leading us to have to wait for our baggage to go onto the main conveyor belt to feel safe the luggage was going onto the plane.
- At the same time, the Assistant Captain at the Shorouk restaurant in the hotel was very good, service minded and efficient and made our dinners at the restaurant yet more pleasurable.
- The service at the hotels Italian restaurant was very good and made for a very enjoyable evening.

So all in all, if generalizing staff at the restaurants in Egypt are good and committed, whereas the staff in stores, taxi drivers and in many other places will view you as a wallet which is there to be scammed. I even told a taxi driver I didn't have more money, which was true, and he replayed, "I take you to machine, you get more", as if all guests to their country had unlimited budgets.

That said, the reception staff is efficient and helpful, the hotel is clean as well as the rooms. They view is really good from the rooms facing the ocean and the pool and ocean by the island is very nice.

Would we go back? If we would go back to Egypt and Hurghada we would for sure consider the Marriot as it didn't seem that the negatives we experienced was specific to the hotel in any way, but more a generic item.
