“Horrible honeymoon at Hilton Hurghada”

Hilton Hurghada Long Beach Resort

I recently stayed at this hotel as part of my honeymoon. The first week was spent on a Nile cruise and was absolutely fantastic. Week 2 at Hilton Long Beach was supposed to be the relaxing calm after the storm. Unfortunatley it was the opposite.

Before traveling I had read some bad reviews of this hotel but was open minded and thought people were just being overly picky about things as I have experienced from previous reviews. This is not the case.

I arrived at the hotel and first impressions were excellent. It looked nice, well designed and laid out with gardens everywhere and pretty villas with sea views. The staff were friendly and extremely helpfull. I was looking forward to sun, sea, swimming pools and a couple of chilled out excursions such as scuba diving.

It all went wrong when it came to food. The hotel is all inclusive which means meals are served in large buffets. This isn't necessarily a problem if done well. The food varied from day to day from plain and boring to disgusting and inedible. Within 2 days of staying at the hotel myself and my husband were ill. We suffered severe stomach cramps, sickness and diahorrea. We had been warned about this in Egypt and didn't worry too much thinking it would only last a day or so. It lasted 2 weeks and was so severe we barley left our hotel room and had to take antibiotics when we returned to the UK to resolve the problem.

The first week on the cruise, neither of us were ill proving that this is not typical of all food in Egypt.

The food in this hotel sits in large vats for hours on end with flies everywhere. The food is prodded, poked at and even tasted from the vats by the hundreds of guests, most of whom are Eastern European and Russian - clearly the clientle that this hotel caters for.

When we stayed here all the British people fell ill. This must be a problem through out Hurghada as everyone on our return convoy to Luxor regardless of hotel had similar problems. I now see why everyone goes to Sharm El Sheikh.

The sickness we suffered was so severe it ruined the whole week. We didn;t see anything, or go anywhere. We even had to cancel planned excusrions at the last minute with no refunds. We have never been so pleased to be home from a holiday.

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. IF YOU HAVE, TRY TO GET A TRANSFER SOMEWHERE ELSE!

“Loose weight on an all inclusive holiday???????”

Hilton Hurghada Long Beach Resort

After staying at the Hilton Hurgarda Long Beach in Oct 2006 we couldn’t wait to return. We had a great time - the best holiday I’d ever been on.
The disappointment on our return visit is immeasurable. We couldn’t believe the change in 18 months.
2 weeks of stomach cramps – sickness and diarrhoea.
The food is disgraceful.
We did not want to spend our holiday discussing other people’s toilet habits but every British person we met had been severely ill.
Also, do not expect to get any sympathy from the hotel management. Even after we’d informed them that we’d witness staff handling defrosting/raw meat, then serving cooked meat and chips with the same unwashed hand, we were ignored and pushed to one side.
Do expect to get a large doctors bill when checking out of the hotel.
One last thing – Even though there is a list in the hotel brochure listing what is included in the ‘all inclusive’, it may not be the case depending on which waiter you get. (Be prepared to stand your ground)
On the bright side - after for two weeks I had lost a lot of weight. One very expensive detox!!!!

Our first stay in the honeymoon was in Hilton long Beach it is a great hotel realy 5* hotel everything was very good we accomodate in a suite sea view which was gergeous, the view was extraordinary, at the night there was a great show, it was very funny & fantastic i really enjoyed my stay, also food & service was great, the majority of the guests was russian because of an event at these days, the only thing i can say that we really walk too much as the hotel is hudge & the suites was very far from the restaurants & bars

Finally it was a great stay for relaxation & also entertainment

“Rubbish hotel - stay away!”

Hilton Hurghada Long Beach Resort

London & Edinburgh

So, where better to write a review of a hotel than from the lobby of the hotel itself? It’s all fresh in the mind and in this case, provides an opportunity to vent a bit.

I travelled here with Thomas Cook. I couldn’t fault the airline service. What was poor were the cramped conditions of the clearly old aeroplane. It was one of Thomas Cook’s 757-200 and its looking worse for its age; rather tatty in some places. Plus the seat pitch is really poor. Come on Thomas Cook, get some newer plans and better legroom on this service.

On arrival at Hurghada Airport the service was quick and efficient if somewhat chaotic. Ignore what they tell you on the plane, the cost to get into Egypt was more than we were told but that’s a really minor gripe. I was the only person from my flight going to the Hilton Longbeach and so rather than a coach transfer the local agents organised a ‘limousine’ or as we know it, a Toyota hatchback driven by Egypt’s very own Lewis Hamilton. It was fine enough transfer if rather fast at times.

The welcome and check in at the hotel was good. Fast, friendly and efficient. And then a golf club car to the room which was fun. The room was clean and well maintained and has remained so throughout my stay so far. The housekeeping service seems to be very discrete, efficient and to a high enough standard. My room was overlooking the beach which was unexpected but lovely. And at last, a room with air conditioning that really works well and maintains a comfortable temperature; not too warm or too cold. Don’t expect a wide selection of choice on the TV; I not bothered but I am missing the BBC World News.
The staff are, on the whole, friendly although I did have an unpleasant encounter with the woman who is looking after the Hilton Honors members, of which I am one, and she was ignorant, surly and frankly rude.

The guests seem to be mainly Russian with a smattering of other eastern Europeans. Perfectly friendly even if they don’t quite understand the rules of the good old British queue! Not many Brits seem to be here so don’t come expecting to meet loads of new friends and understand them.

I had a spa treatment today and it was fantastic. Really worth getting this done at the beginning of your stay and it doesn’t cost a great deal. No pressure selling either although the people selling hotel services are very visible round the pool and on the beach front.

However, the weakest link in this hotel is the food. It’s rubbish! I am no gastronome and I am fairly adventurous when it comes to food. I like to taste the treats from the country I am visiting and I wasn’t expecting a cooked breakfast or burger and chips every day. But the selection of food is crap especially when compared to my recent experiences of similar class hotels in Hurghada. For example, today’s lunch was the choice of grilled liver, deep fried whole fish or spaghetti. Dinner this evening, BBQ chicken, pasta aribatta or pan fried fish. The selection of vegetables is poor as is the fruit. Even the salads here aren’t that great. One final gripe about the food is that the hot food isn’t hot. The only saving grace are the variety of pastries and puddings which range from good to OK but even they are getting a bit repetitious; bread pudding three days out of four so far! Even the food on Egyptian night was rather mid-European! Yes, the food is a real disappointment – or was I expecting too much from a Hilton! The only good thing about the food is that it is plentiful even up until last orders – or is that because noone is eating it! The food did improve a wee bit but still not what I expected from a Hilton!

Would I come back here? To Hurghada and Egypt – yes. This is my fourth trip and its good – warm and not too far. To the Hilton – probably not; at least until they sort the food out. I don’t think my expectations are too high – I know what I got last July from a hotel down the road from in Makadi Bay and a couple of years ago in Sharm el Sheik was far superior. This is afterall a Hilton!

Everything considered – 3/10; excluding the food 6/10.

“Good holiday but there is a BUT...”

Hilton Hurghada Long Beach Resort

May 25, 2008

I arrived back from this hotel on Friday.
Had a really lovely holiday, went to Cairo, snorkelling and many other things.
The hotel itself is really good in my opinion. Its clean, spacious and the rooms are bright and airy, we had a terrace with sun loungers outside our room which overlooked the beach.

The hotel complex is massive with lots of bars, restaurants and a health club with a gym. I used the gym during my stay a fair bit and found it good if very hot - certainly got you working hard!

Weather was gorgeous during our stay - i echo what the others have said about the 'all inclusiveness' of the restaurant/bars etc but i was expecting that anyway. We ordered a pizza from the Oasis bar at 1.30 am (we had just arrived back at the hotel after a loonnnggg trip by coach to Cairo) and that was a godsend. Really tasty and just what we wanted for only LE3.50 so not bad at all.

We didn't have a problem with the staff and the pools are lovely and big - they were never crowded.

The BUT..
We stayed Friday - Friday and unfortunately on the Wednesday evening i became really ill. Without going into detail, i had a really bad stomach and was throwing up. This lasted all Wednesday evening and Thursday morning...it got to the stage that i couldn't see and my hearing was very strange. We called the doctor who came (after about 25 mins!!!) and i had to have 2 injections, go on a drip for an hour and then they gave me 4 different tablets to take. It was a bit of a nightmare to be honest, i felt so bad. It did the trick though and on Friday i was feeling quite strong and so the journey home was no problem.

I think it was the food in the hotel, as although it is fairly tasty...there are lots of flies around and my advice to anyone travelling is to stick to bread/rice kind of products. Not great i know.

Being ill did spoil the holiday and i wouldn't go back to the Hilton BUT i did have a great time and Hurghada was lovely.

Email me if you want any advice or more info
