We stayed here from December 14th for a week to soak up some sun before the madness of Christmas. We upgraded to a beach front villa and weren't disappointed. The room was immaculate with the most comfortable bed and enormous pillows! The bathroom was huge with a deep marble(?) bath surrounded by glass walls overlooking a small private courtyard. The separate shower had a glass door that opened onto the courtyard so you could almost shower alfresco! Couldn't fault housekeeping- so many staff- everything very clean. They even had guys to rake the beaches! Heated swiming pool but the wind was chilly so no snorkelling or swimming for us- although if you found a sheltered spot it was perfect for sunbathing. Excellent tennis courts- not the half hearted affair you get in many resorts and a superb spa- reccomend the Thai massage for pure relaxation. Ideal resort to laze about andf do very little- not for party lovers or people who like to be on the go. Only downsides: 25 minutes to town and the staff were sometimes too helpful which became a little claustrophobic. Drinks expensive in the bar- buy at duty free as difficult to find beer and wine in shops. Would definately go back.

“Great to relax”

We stayed for 2 weeks with our little baby boy at the resort.Beeing exhausted from work at home we felt this place is wonderful to relax. It takes about 30 min from Hurghada airport and the city. The city of Hurghada is not worth going-horrible touristy place.
We had a "normal" suite without a pool. Two rooms, a huge walk-in closet, wonderful privat terrace with two sunbeds. Rooms were tidied two times a day.
Staff is very friendly-I don´t think it is all about tips because you are ask to give a general tip and not tip seperately. And they are great with kids. They even have a great activity center with a nanny during the day.
Food is very good! And the spa treatments are wonderful!!
Down at the beach you are served complementary drinks and frozen fruit as well as cold towels. You can not access the water from the beach. There is a beautiful reef at the beach and snorkeling is great.
Only downside: The wind. Normally it starts in december but it started early this year and it is very strong.

“All about tips”

Okay, my husband and I totally loved the property, it was heaven. The room and the private pool was exceptional. The food and service was great. My one complaint is, it's all about tips. The staff have degrees in sucking in the tourists and most have a masters in it. Once you start to be friendly with the staff they go over the top to make you feel guilty you come from another Country. My suggestion would be, go to this wonderful resort and keep to yourself, don't befriend the staff or you'll pay way too much. Enjoy your holiday and keep to yourself, the staff is there to service you and don't feel guilty and start handing out extras. The price to visit this property is high enough.

“Good but.....”

The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh

I did have an enjoyable time but felt there was still alot of room for improvement as i expect a hotel that markets itself they way they do to be exceptional.

Rooms

Beautiful, large, comfortable, quiet, fantastic!
Lovely bathrooms also.

Swimming Pool

Only 1 but the hotel is not large enough for it to get overcrowded

Restaurants

3 - an indian , a western and a egyptian, all good but slightly limiting choices

Spa

Fantastic treatment options done by the people from the Banyan Tree in Thailand.

Improvements....

On arrival you go on the Oberoi bus back to the hotel which really should be better, we were all crammed into a old looking bus with loud egyptian music and furry seats??!

The getty was unavailable all week for repairs and it was quite hairy swimming out when the sea was rough between the corals

Really keen diver and was dissapointed there was no boat from the hotel and you had to have long journeys to to other hotels to go diving

Loads of Jelly fish in the sea when we went in June, but to be fair they were not stingers and perfectly harmless

The beach could have been cleaner as every day there were washed up rubbish from boats and i never once saw people cleaning it up, i could easily pick up water melon peels, cigarette packets and empty waterbottles every day.

Personally if you can find it for a similar price i would pick the 4 seasons sharm everytime as that is perfection!, did enjoy my time but would not go back as did not live up to what i would expect, but i accept i am fussy.

“Pretending to be something it's not - go to the Four Seasons Sharm instead”

We travelled to Hurghada from Sharm El Sheikh, where we stayed at the Four Seasons. We were expecting the Oberoi to be excellent and were looking forward to our stay.

This hotel is a big disappointment and no comparison to other hotels in the same price bracket. Reception was overstaffed, inefficient and unfriendly. Service is slow and variable. Rooms are big, clean and do at least contain a private courtyard. Resort landscaping is poor and unattractive. The hillside was also very very windy when we visited.

For some bizarre reason the hotel insisted on taking the seals off the bottled water in the room, making it impossible to tell whether the water was refilled or new. Replacement bottles inevitably didn't arrive.

The place is slightly too big to walk easily to/from rooms and yet the small buggys used to transport people can take 15 mins and a couple of phone calls to arrive.

Food was OK, the Indian restaurant was good although room service was not. The place felt half empty, which is not surprising considering.

The reason I am rating this so poorly is clearer when you compare the Oberoi to other similarly priced hotels. We paid more at the Oberoi than at the Four Seasons Sharm and there is really no comparison whatsover.

If you want to stay at an excellent hotel on the Red Sea coast, please think very carefully before including this resort in your plans. I will never return, but look forward to returning to the Four Seasons as soon as I can afford it!

NB - The ferry from Sharm to Hurghada works OK, takes around 2.5 hours and the airconditioning is variable (or not working). It may be better to take a daytime sailing for what are probably excellent views across the Red Sea.
