“Attention to detail”

Khem Villas

Dec 18, 2007

The stylishness and attention to detail is really what makes this place special. We are seasoned travelers and have been on safaris in Africa and India. Khem Villas was superb, both in terms of value for money, as well as the flawlessness of comfort and service. In December it can be chilly and details like the hot water bottles in our beds and on our morning safaris (in addition to warm woollen blankets) were well appreciated. They also provided a delicious cake for my husband's birthday and when we arrived Usha ji wished him many happy returns. The owners are elegant, charming and well educated. It is apparent that they are running Khem Villas as a passion, not just a business venture. The staff are discreet and well-trained and the service was better than any 5 star international hotel we have been to. The environment is well described by others as an oasis. In addition, Ranthambore itself is spectacular to visit for the landscape and ruins of the fort. Two tigers posed for us very nicely in a cenotaph of the ruins.

“Tiger's Resort”

Khem Villas

Dec 10, 2007

We had such a pleasant surprise to see how good the Resort was in all departments.. The Cottages are lovely.. rustic & luxuriuos, food excellent (even tho Veg only), service great and the Hosts. Lovely people. A great 3 days stay.. great atmosphere..good massages, will love to go back.

Next time will try the Tents.. to get a more authentic jungle feel.. loved the bamboo shower area . The tent is a cosy Love den !!
Full marks.. hope they keep it that way.

Met some very interesting people from around the world at the evening campfire & Goverdhans a great entertainer and the passion for saving the Tigers is very evident.. thats why some call him 'Tiger Singh'.

This was my second visit to Rathambhore and I stayed at Vanyavilas the first time I went--and I loved, what could be better, I thought? Khem Villas is what.

I stayed at a tent in both places. Vanyavilas is more razzmatazz, marble and raj and Khem villas is more the exquisite retreat of a tigerwallah--more the real thing.

These tents are built on wooden (big tiles in the bathrooms) platforms, but after that they are tents where the feel and the sounds of a tiger jungle may enter. Vaynavilas tents are all enclosed with glass and walls so they can be air conditioned--very nice indeed, but I missed the "call of the wild" more than I missed the air conditioning. Although if you stay in the house or in a cottage there is air conditioning at Khem Villas.

The feeling at Khem Villas as someone else mentioned, is that of a congenial house party. I thought Usha and Govindand, the hosts, did a wonderful job of including people within the group or leaving them their privacy depending on their mood--thus a much better spot for the single traveler.

But the main reason, I will always stay here is all the good--and very hard--work this family has done to save the tiger and improving the lives of the villagers. I doubt there would be any tigers at all to be awed by if Singh Rathore family was not here.

“The heart of my vacation”

My wife and I stayed at Khemvillas for four days on a recent month long trip through India. For anyone traveling to India, who understands why Sawai Madhopus/Ranthambore must be on your itinerary, it will be equally easy to understand why Khemvillas must be the place where you stay during your time in that part of the world.

Pros:
- attentive, friendly staff.
- warm owners/hosts (Usha and Goverdhan) who mingle with the guests every evening at a campfire that looks over one of the two lakes on the property. (Drinks are complimentary). Also a wonderful way to meet other guests/travelers.
- amazing setup with traditional rooms, tents, or cottages (all of which can be previewed on their website). We splurged on a cottage with a lakeview and loved it!
- the surroundings, the wildlife, the night sky, the absence of technology that beeps at you.... serenity.
- a chance to learn about non-profit efforts of the owners (who also have helped establish a hospital and a school in the village).

PLUS all the positive comments by other reviewers.

Cons:
- hmm... can't think of any. Sorry.

Tips:
- Books your Ranthambore jeep safaris well in advance.
- If you have any questions, contact Usha. She is excellent at doing what she does and will certainly find a way to help you.

Photos: coming soon.

“Fantastic place..”

Turning off from a dusty track, I had never imagined I would find the lush oasis of Khem Villas just around the corner. We were brought tea by the beautiful little lake as we watched the sunset over the hills of the National Park. In the evening, we sat by the crackling camp fire before heading inside for the delicious food. There is an extremely wide selection of cuisine and the standard is equally high at breakfast and lunch. The cottage we stayed in was most comfortable with appealing decor and I loved the open air bath and shower under the stars!
Being at Khem Villas you really feel like you are right in the heart of rural Ranthambhore, and having been to other hotels in the area I know that they fail to achieve the same balance of luxury and traditional Indian experience... one night we even heard the calls of two Tigers in the distance! Highly recommended.
