“Early wake-up call”

Hotel Baba Palace

3 of 5 stars
Stockholm, Sweden
Nov 20, 2007

Baba Palace’s location opposite the Jagdish temple is special but weird, and it turns into a problem when the chanting starts very early in the morning (or late in the evening). Our room faced this beautiful temple and even for a normally very hard sleeper it was impossible not to wake up at 5.30 AM. It lasts only about ten-fifteen minutes, but still.

Also, since “the thing” with Udaipur is the lake, it would probably have been nicer with a hotel facing that lake instead of the busy crossing by the temple. Room was clean and reasonably large but more than a bit cold nighttime (in January), and the free airport pick-up worked perfectly.

“loved the rooms”

Hotel Baba Palace

Sep 21, 2007

I stayed at the Baba Palace for a week in the middle of March 2007. As a woman traveling alone I felt safe at all times and loved being right in the middle of town. I appreciated the elevator, the nice clean room with cable televison, cold a/c (if they shut it down during the day, call the reception and ask for them to turn it on again), hot water at all times, the rooftop restaurant (food is OK) and complementary breakfast (omlettes, coffee/tea, toast, butter, jam)

I stayed in a room with a view of the Jagdish temple (950 rupees) but unlike the other reviewer the chanting did not disturb my sleep. The staff was friendly and helpful. At the end of my stay they had tacked on the bill a tax. When I told them the tax is only supposed to be added to rooms that cost more than 1000 rupees, they called the manager and removed it from the bill. There was a young man in the reception who spoke very little English, but my reservation was in order and I was given a room right away. I would defintely stay at this hotel again. NO PROBLEMS! excellent excellent and excellent

“GREAT LOCATION, Good A/C”

The hotel is right across the Jagdish temple, very close to the city palace, is surrounded by nice local shops and has a very nice tailor right across the side entrance. Although they advertise as men's wear, the tailor, Darshan Panwar (really nice guy, I saved his card)!) also makes women's clothing and speaks very good English. There are also several nice restaurants within two steps of the hotel (Check out Maxim's Cafe rooftop and Anna's.)

I stayed in a room with a view of the Jagdish temple (950 rupees) but unlike the other reviewer the chanting did not disturb my sleep. The staff was friendly and helpful. “City center”

Hotel Baba Palace

Baba Palaca has one big advantage - its location! Situated in the heart of udaipur, in the midst of the city (with a little place full of shopin front of the hotel), with roads so narrow, that cars might have a problem to pass (nevertheless they try hard to go through the old part of the town, causing traffic jams during peak times).
Right opposite you find famoous Jagdish temple, a some minutes walk takes you to all central sights of Udaipur.

Inspect the rooms first! - they should be clean, but not newly furbished. If you are not keen on the temple view, you should find cheaper rooms facing the other side of the hotel. Staff is friendly, elevator worked (and is necessary for -I think 6 floors), Roof-top-Restaurant has got great view, but awful food!

In total, an average place with city-prices and a great view!
