I was in Jamahal for 4 days in the middle 17-21st Feb. Really loved everything about the place, except the price.
Its a beautiful boutique resort in the Jimbaran area of Bali. I was really scared about booking this place (as there were no prior reviews) and also because i was going there for my honeymoon (and wanted it to be perfect) and this place was hugely expensive.
we had booked the Superior Luxury Pool Villa (Alamanda) and it cost us about 345 USD per night (room rate - twin sharing). This is after the special discount for booking through the internet.
PROS:
---The place is truly AWESOME. If you are looking for a private honeymoon in the lap of luxury, then THIS IS IT. You have your own walled private villa, there are only 9 villas in all, so it will never get very crowded. In fact, when I had ventured out of the villa on our first night there I was a little spooked out because the grounds are very tastefull decorated with a lot of greenery and ston statues, with I couldnt see or hear anyone during my entire walk to the reception. Only huge lighted Balinese statues looming out of dark vegetation. Dont get me in the wrong sense, it was an awesome experience.
---The place was luxuriously furnished. Cannot find any flaws with the room or pool or anything else. The pics on their website reflect the actual place pretty well. for the Alamanda Pool villa, you can refer to my pics.
---The service was extremely good. The staff was very caring and non-intrusive. The management was also pretty efficient.
---The breakfast is included in the price and its awesome. Its not the usual buffet breakfast - since there are so few villas. You have an option of various kinds of items including everything from croissants to salmon , sausage , variety of eggs, pancakes, cheeses, the works.. you fill in a form (like a multiple choice questionnaire) and submit it to the reception the night before indicating the time when you want to be served and they bring it to you at the time. And you can enjoy it in the privacy of your villa by your private pool.
---We just had one meal (the first dinner), and the quality was very good. But the price was quite steep. around 45 USD for 2 persons. You can get a meal for a half or a third of that in the best places of Bali.
--- It is located in Jimbaran village quite close to the famous seafood restaurants everyone talks about. But, its right on the main road and you can easily get a taxi. The reception can call one for you (not a hotel car, but a normal bali taxi - bluebird, etc) and you can get to the shoppings districts of Kuta in 15-20 mins costing around (35,000 Indonesian Rupiah). So, its not very far from the center
CONS:
---One of the main reasons why people go to Bali is to enjoy the beach and you cant really do much of that (not in its true essence, at least) if you stay in Jamahal. The website says that its 300 metres from the Jimbaran Beach and has private beach access. Actually, its across the road from the beach and you have to take a 10-12 mins walk from the hotel to go to the Beach (Jamahal also has a free shuttle). There is this another resort right on the Beach (Puri Bali - looked pretty decent, though less classy) which has the private Beach (wonderful stretch).
So, essentially, jamahl was a really great place with the only issues being the cost and location.. a lot cheaper places right on the beach.
