Stayed in Towers rooms at the Sheraton Bandung Hotel and Towers from 13th to 15th November. Booked two rooms and two additional beds for 5 adults and two children.
Rooms have connecting doors. However adjoining rooms appear to have different kinds of beds. We originally requested two connecting rooms with King beds but this resulted in being given rooms several doors apart. When we queried this, we were told that next door had twin beds. This wasn’t a problem for us and on finding one of the adjacent rooms was vacant we moved out of one of the rooms with the king sized beds into that adjacent room so the children could benefit from more space and more people to supervise them
The Towers rooms are club rooms and the cocktails offered on the web site for the Towers rooms are not just cocktails but also tea, coffee, non alcoholic drinks, savouries and other snacks. 'The Jakarta Post' and ‘International Herald Tribune’ newspapers are provided in the lounge 'The 'Jakarta Post' is also provided to the rooms each morning. The lounge has some outdoor seating overlooking the Dago Valley - quite relaxing when combined with the food, drink and newspapers.
One point to note concerning the Towers lounge, a request for a 'soft drink' in the Towers lounge area was met with incomprehension until I clarified by asking for a Coca Cola so be careful how requests are phrased if in English. My accent may also not have helped though. Indonesians freely admit to be more familiar what they term ‘American accents’ rather than those of the Australasian or British variety and my accent is more a mixture of the later.
Concerning Towers facilities, following uncertainty and questions on my part, the Towers’ staff provided a piece of paper specifying the benefits of having a Towers room including free breakfast in either the Towers’ lounge or the main restaurant area. Although not used on this trip staff told us the Towers lounge also has wi-fi.
Clearly too, the hotel must get a lot of repeat custom as they expressed surprise that I hadn’t been to the hotel before, when I came seeking their help having just come from checking into our rooms
.
The two restaurants referred to on the hotel web site - Tuscany’s Restaurant and Chopstix Restaurant seemed to be really two parts of the one restaurant which served buffet at least in the evening and breakfast. One restaurant had the food and the other the tables We didn't visit for lunch so can't comment on lunch here but the food for both dinner and breakfast was fine and the view overlooking the pool very pleasant. For breakfast I would have liked a Western egg dish such as scrambled or fried eggs but generally the selection was quite good. With most guests being Indonesian it is only appropriate that the hotel focus on Indonesian style breakfasts. One nice surprise though was that one morning bread and butter pudding was amongst the available choices. While I haven't thought of bread and butter pudding as a breakfast dish, it pleasantly complemented the rest of the meal.
The hotel web site refers to scheduled family and supervised children’s activities children's activities but prior to arriving was informed these were only available during school holidays and special occasions such as Easter and Christmas. In fact we saw very few other children around, although from the comments of previous Trip Advisor reviews I guess the situation may be different on weekends and school holidays.
The pool was pleasant. Nice for families to have a pool in Bandung which while not large, is still reasonable in size and which is not a boring rectangular shape and not too deep or shallow.
As far as I can tell from my own experiences and from the reviews of Bandung Hotels on Trip Advisor, the Sheraton Bandung Hotel and Towers with its pool, slight resort feel, space for children to run around in and the scheduled family and supervised children’s activities during school holidays, and special occasions, is easily the best hotel for families hoiaying with kids in Bandung.
We have family in Bandung, and my wife is attracted to the clothing factory outlets that it seems Bandung is famous for. As a result we will almost certainly be returning to the Sheraton Bandung Hotel and Towers, probably for a longer stay, probably in a year or so when we next visit Indonesia.
