“if you want peace DO NOT book here !!!”

Hotel Emira

My boyfriend and I wanted a beachy, relaxing and peaceful holiday and were assured when we booked up that hotel emira was very quiet ha ha !!!

First of all our flight was delayed and we basically arrived at the hotel at 2130 instead of 1530. We had asked our rep on the bus if we could change travellers cheques when we got there as tunsian dinar is a closed currency it can't be changed beforehand. When we arrived we were told that no we couldn't get any money from ANYWHERE and that there was no food in the hotel. We hadn't eaten since 0800 that morning and it was my boyfriends b day.

So we went to unpack to blaring ??music not sure if u would call the birdy song, agodoo and the hokey cokey music it was hellish and happened everynight and day the same rubbish music at ridiculous volume.

The room was ok def not 3 star !!! not even a hairdryer !!! Our door handle fell off countless times which we informed hotel staff and our rep and nothing was done. We asked to swap rooms due to the music and people banging on doors at 0230 am and again nothing was done.

The pool was too small for the amount of people using it and its impossible to get a sun lounger unless you have a towel on one at 7am !!!

We never had breakfast there we went for a coffee and pain au chocolat in cafe pyramid just down the road very local lovely man that runs it.

We went to the hotel azur private beach most days which is gorgeous.

We visited the aquapark and it is the biggest rip off only 3 slides were working. We had to pay for sunloungers and when we went for lunch the waitor asked to see our ticket which we showed him he then gave us two cold meals we assumed these were part of the ticket price and began to eat the cold chips etc then he came back and tried to make us pay for it !!!!!

The restuarants we visited were Sidi slims which is very posh , casscades where the waitors kept getting the order wrong but was lovely setting, black and white where again the waitors pretend to understand but don't !! The bierhouse in the square was great for cheap food.

The medina is scary be careful !!! The taxis were cheap and great value. The casino wasn't open. The tunisian men are very sleazy so ladies be wary.

So all in all we enjoyed the sun, the beach and most restaurants and that was about it. We wouldn't go back.

“please please give this hotel a miss!”

Hotel Emira

Aug 20, 2007

when me and my hubby arrived to Hotel Emira, after a long travel from Monastir Airport, we got told there was no room for us and had to saty at another hotel nearby for the night. the manager looked stressed so we agreed, he did say the other hotel was 3* and nice!

we arrived at this other hotel,,,which was more like a hostel, it was disgusting....smelly unclean. we were both very upset by this, spent the night here and went to emira in the morning.

our room was clean and spacious but the there was two single beds pushed together with a big split in the middle, and i felt the springs in my back. by the end of the week my neck, shoulders and back are killing! thank god we wre there for only a week.

nway we were half bored so we went for our evening meal!!!! yuk! disgusting! seriuosly just thinking about it now is making me feel sick!

i am not going to say anymore. just if you want to have a nice holiday, dont book into hotel emira.... i would rather a pay that little bit extra and get a 4* or 5*.

tunisia itself is a lovely place to visit!

“Basic, but great fun!”

OK, so it's not The Ritz- but for the price it's great! The bar staff are wonderful and friendly. The DJ/MD is so entertaining. The reception staff are helpful. And it is a cheap taxi ride to anywhere. For a basic, but extremely inexpensive hotel, you can't beat it.

“Give this hotel a miss!”

Hotel Emira

Aug 18, 2007

Hotel Emira Tunisia.
Date:8th - 15th August 2007

After arriving at the "Hotel Emira" after a long and trying transfer from Monastir airport, we(my husband, teenage son and myself) were informed by the hotel manager that we were to stay at another hotel that night as they had overbooked- we objected but with nowhere to sleep we had very little choice but to go!

We were packed off to what I can only describe as a hostel-it was awful.A view of an ugly brick wall and no pool!

The following day we were returned to the "Hotel Emira" by camper van with our luggage balanced on top of us! we were not alone there was other guests being transfered back to the "Emira"!

At the Emira we were taken to our room, clean and spacious! The pool is good but not enough sunbeds (Expect your sunbed to disappear if you take a dip in the pool)!!

We booked half board- the food was horrendous!!!!!

We managed to eat from the hotel BBQ???? It really is a poolside snack bar serving pizza, sandwiches etc.......

Entertainment is laughable! Most evenings it was cancelled, believe me that is not a bad thing!

We were one of the lucky peoplw we just went for a week!!!!

I would seriously advise all travellers to Hammamet - give the Hotel Emira a miss.

“Absolutely HATED it...”

Hotel Emira

Aug 15, 2007
1/1 found this review helpful

After booking 3 months in advance, the Emira transfered us and lots of other people to another hotel for 2 nights. When we got to stay at the Emira, the air con was broken, the phone was disconnected so that we couldn't use it, the window lock was broken, and there was an exposed fuse box about 1 foot from the floor. Not good if you have young children especially.

The food - was terrible, kids portions! And the waiters took at least 20 mins from sit-down to serving you. You have to pay for water even if you have your meals included.
The starter was a few leaves of warm lettuce soaked in oil (the lettcue was black and curley round the edges). 2 menu choices for main course. The dessert was the same every day - a warm slice of melon that smelled like alcohol it was fermenting in the heat. We only ate the main course. And guess what...
Me and my husband and plenty other people ended up with food poisoning!!! 5 days we were bedridden. This happened under 24 hours of arriving at Emira. Yes, apparantly they switch OFF their food freezers and fridges at night to save electric. We were told this by the catering staff themselves and they saw no problem with this at all. In these freezers was kept meat and fish used to serve the meals and food at the hotel.

The receptionist staff - Extreamly ignorant and lie to your face, making empty promises that they would fix our air con.
We were promised a change of room the next day at 12 noon. We came back at 12 noon and were told to come back at 1pm. Went back at 1pm and told to come back at 4.30pm. This continued until we finally spoke to the manager as the staff were of no use what-so-ever and could not organise their way out of a paper bag.

Currency Conv - Was harly ever open and never had any currency when it was!

The BBQ cook - working in the heat and dripping sweat all over the food, then going away for a cigarette, upon returning did NOT wash his hands and just went back to cooking. No gloves used - just to clarify, he was working with bare hands. Everything was greesy and tasteless.

Evening entertainment - Agadoo, Barbie Girl, Okie Cokie, and other such irritating hits were played from 10am until 12 at night on FULL volume. The bingo and the entertainment was clearly directed at children. Which is fine if you have kids but everybody had to listen to it weather they wanted to or not.

We are not picky people, by any means. We are both in our 20's and enjoy travelling. But honestly, we were thoroughly appauled at the hotel and it's staff.

Do not go here if you can help it, it's a hotel from hell.
