Hyatt Regency is a nice big hotel. So big that every morning between 8 to 10am there is a 10-20 minutes cue to get into the lobby coffee shop for the buffet breakfast. The wait is worth it though. Good buffet. They offer breakfast in the 27th floor but not as extensive. They also have the Japanese restaurant in the 3rd floor open for Japanese set breakfast.
During winter months, the heater is on in the whole hotel and it was really hot. We had to request for an electric fan and keep the aircon/heater off in our room.
The great thing is the internet in the rooms are free of charge.
Security is good. My daughter left her handbag in the lobby and just remembered it after 3 hours...the security kept the bag. Another time my husband forgot his key on the door. The security immediately came over to inform us. Quite efficient.
There is a Mcdonalds and a convenient store in the building adjacent to our hotel. The subway station is accessible from the hotel.

“Phantom Rooms an Absolute Disgrace!”

Hyatt Regency Tokyo

Having stayed before when it was the Century Hyatt, I was aware this hotel had about 100 very small sub-standard single rooms which are only suitable for a Japanese-style business hotel. So when it was proposed for a recent business trip, I informed the agent I would only use the newly renamed Hyatt Regency if I was in a normal-sized room. No problem, I was informed; the hotel has been totally refurbished and rebranded and I would have the standard room with a kind-size bed. To double check, I looked at Hyatt's own website. Sure enough, the standard room (i.e. the smallest) in the Hyatt Regency is a normal-sized room. To be 100% sure, I faxed the hotel 24 hours in advance to confirm my room and bed size request.

On arrival, I was first surprised to discover that I was not on a Gold Passport floor (the first time this has happened in 17 years as a GP member), and then shocked to find I was in that same small unfurbished sub-standard room with a small bed. So, disgracefully, Hyatt's website is deliberately misleading. In my attempt to find out why the sub-standard rooms are not listed, I contacted the hotel's PR department. The Director was out but would call me back "in a couple of hours". When I left 72 hours later, I was still waiting for that call!

I checked at reception about the relative cost of these sub-standard rooms and discovered they are only about 10% less than the standard rooms (although the usable space is at least 40% less and a similar room in a business class hotel would cost nearly 50% less). Then, during 150 minutes of conversations with five different staff, more facts and discrepancies began to spill out. First I was told the receptionist had given me inaccurate information. Later this was retracted! Then, that these rooms are sold only to travel agents. Also retracted when I pressed and found they are also sold to walk-in guests. Then, most amazing of all, these rooms are not part of the hotel's deal with Hyatt which is why they are not on the hotel's web-site! Apparently many Japanese like the small rooms but Hyatt head office does not allow the hotel owners to include them as part of the deal with Hyatt because they are not up to Hyatt standards!!

I was staggered. So Hyatt permits a hotel owner to sell rooms under the Hyatt brand at Hyatt prices which it knows are unacceptable for the Hyatt brand! This is an absolute disgrace! By deliberately selling these rooms at Hyatt rooms, in my view both the hotel owner and Hyatt are guilty of deliberate misrepresentation. And my understanding of the law is that this is actionable in the courts. I will now avoid all Hyatt hotels and return my GP card.

“Good, but not great.”

Hyatt Regency Tokyo

We recently visited the Hyatt Regency in Tokyo for 3 nights and i must say i wasnt overly impressed. We had just come from the Hyatt Regency in Kyoto and it was not in the same class (see Kyoto review- thoroughly enjoyed it!). Nonetheless, the staff were reasonably friendly, the location quiet and fairly convenient. The bathroom was a bit small and the decor in the room needs an update. Overall, there was nothing particularly wrong with this hotel, but nothing 'stand out' either.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The hotle is set just outside of all of the hustle and bustle that is Tokyo. The surrounding area is predominantly high rise buildings and corporate offices, a nice area.
    • Disliked — Rooms are a bit outdated and could do with a bit of a makeover- but simple and nothing particularly wrong with them.

Walking into the Century Hyatt inspires travelers with their courteous service. Before you walk into the Century Hyatt, my husband and I were greeted and our bags were taken straight to our rooms. Tips are not something you have to worry either. As Japanese culture, tips are considered an insult. If you decide to travel around Tokyo, the train station below the hotel is located to take you where your heart desires. Shops and fast food places (including McDonalds) are also located below the hotel but closes quite early. Don't worry about not knowing the language either, the Century Hyatt staff is trained to learn English.
In the lobby is a grandiose chandelier that masks the lobby to reflect the marble floors giving a feeling of awe. Next is the buffet/restaurant. I recommend the restaurant across from the lobby. There is a breakfast buffet that is more suitable for American tastes. If you are Japanese or enjoy featuring the culture cuisine, the Century Hyatt has two other exquisite dining areas on the second floor. Where you can have a bento box to fine dining for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The rooms at the Century Hyatt are not to die for but if you are willing to pay you can definitely enjoy a room with a view of Tokyo which is breath taking. If you are planning to do laundry at the hotel, it's expensive and only offers pick up service. In addition, Tokyo is concerned with the environment and makes you aware of it where ever you go. I mention this because, as a courtesy they strongly suggest that you only request maid service if you really need it. Otherwise they suggest maid service to be minimal to avoid wasting water to clean the sheets.
The highlight of the Century Hyatt though is the spa. If you can manage to squeeze in the dough take a trip to their spa. You will have very little wait and various types of massages are given to enhance your mood. For example, you can choose a massage oil that will make you more energetic or a massage oil that makes you sleepy. After you are done with your massage you will be brought to a relaxation room. You want to be in this room. At the relaxation room you are brought bread and soup, but that's not the best part. The best part of the relaxation room is the lounge seat that allows you a perfect panoramic view of Tokyo! It's absolutely breathtaking and makes me want to go back to the Tokyo Century Hyatt.
I am looking forward to staying at more spa Hyatt hotels and reliving the experience as best as possible.

“Impeccable service never fail”

Hyatt Regency Tokyo

4 of 5 stars

Just completed another stay at the Hyatt Regency Tokyo (formerly Century Hyatt) this week . The concierge, front desk and bell service continues to remain impeccable. I havent revisited Tokyo for the past 18mths. And this is my first stay after their name change. They are always courteous and expedient.

The hotel is not close to the JR or Tokyo metro station. It does provide free shuttle every twenty minutes to the JR station. The hotel is right at the Tochomae station of the Oedo line. It's right next to the Tokyo Metropoitan Building where you can enjoy the panoramic view of Tokyo at the 52 floor observation deck day and night time for free.

One flaw this trip was due to the renovation of the cafe, so the used to be sumptous buffet breakfast was moved to the Chinese retaurant and another Japanese outlet in the hotel. Due to the size of the restaurant, the breakfast selection was drastically reduced. I do hope the quality breakfast returns as soon as the cafe is reopened.

I also miss the mini orgami paper crane that he housekeeping staff put on the pillow at every evening turndown service.
There was no turndown service, of course, no little paper crane to sing lullaby.

Overall, it's still an enjoyable stay, for the Lobby Floor guest manager - an long-serviced scholar look gentleman Mr. Y. Arima always makes every guest feels at home with warm welcome and assistance.
