Unlike some Langkawi hotels, the Frangipani is right on the beach. My parents-in-law were in a deluxe sea-view villa with an outdoor (enclosed!) shower which they loved. My husband and i were in a Standard room but we used the seaview (and verandah) as a base. If you can justify the extra money I would recommend staying in a sea front villa as there is nothing quite like opening your curtains to a white sandy beach and blue sea.

Both rooms were clean and good value for money. Breakfast had a wide choice including Asian and Western favourites. I am not quite sure where the 'spa' tag of the hotel name comes from, there wasnt much evidence of that. There was a woman who gave massages in huts by the beach - for around 65RM I think.

Unfortunately the sea had a lot of sea lice or small jellyfish - like much of Malaysia - it wasnt a great problem as you can't see them and they don't leave a mark, it just deters too much wallowing in the shallows.

One other thing - one evening we reserved a beachside hut for dinner. It was 100RM for a set menu, the food was excellent and we had a very attentive waiter in a beautiful setting. Well worth arranging for a special occasion.

Location of this hotel is superb - literally right on the beach of soft powder sand. It is an oasis of tranquility - just the spot to crash out for 4 - 5 days as a break en route to / from Australia.
The staff are all extremely pleasant and friendly.
I just switched off my brain and looked out over the sea at the setting sun.

We spent a week in this beautiful piece of heaven. True, the rooms were small, but we didn't spend much time inside.
The resort was clean and the service was good. The location is great. It is nice and quiet. Our children had a great time (6, 4 and 1 1/2). We spent lots of time at the beach and pools. Langkawi is a beautiful place to be. Rented a car for a day (cheap) and went to the waterfalls - a must - and the cable car. The Bon Ton's Nam restaurant is a must for dinner. There are lots of places to eat within walking distance of the Frangipani, I recommend Sun Cafe and Sunday Bistro. The breakfast at the hotel is good and the view in the morning was beautiful. We also took an island hopping tour through the hotel and it was fun.

After reading the reviews at Trip Advisor, to be honest I was a bit scared about staying @ Frangipani but I am glad that we chose it since it was exactly what we wanted. It was calm, quiet, and extremely green and the overall look was very natural. The beach is extremely beautiful and clean. We stayed in a Standard Room and it was very basic but neat. We were not much bothered about the room since we hardly stayed inside it. Most of the restaurants and shopping areas are in the vicinity of the hotel and that’s another plus.

The stay was totally worth as compared to the price we paid for. I don’t expect 5 star amenities if I am paying a price of 3/4star
