“Nothing fancy, but great value!”

I was having a terrible time trying to find a reasonable priced ryokan in Kyoto in late March, and after emailing 26 different places, the Nashinoki got back to me! It's run by an older couple who don't speak much English, but we were able to get by. The ryokan is nothing fancy, but clean and serviceable, and the price can't be beat! We paid about 5,000 yen a person, and that included a great traditional Japanese breakfast. They also have bikes to hire for 300-600 yen a day, which was a very nice option. The location is a bit further away from many of the sights, but with the bikes and the excellent bus system, we didn't have any problem.

“Great Jap breakfast”

My husband and I wanted to try a ryokan while in Japan, but due to budget constraints, it wasn't easy to find a ryokan under 10,000 yen.

This place met the budget and was an excellent choice. The owners were really friendly, especially our affable lady host.

The website for the inn indicates that it is a 7 mins walk from the nearest subway station. Although directions on how to get to the inn are crystal clear, the walk is closer to 12 mins.

When you're carrying a fullpack, like my husband was, and in the Japan summer heat, it matters.

Also, generally, if you're not used to sleeping on futons, ryokans may not be a good choice. Although their futons were a ok thickness, we couldn't get to sleep, being used to mattresses.

I would recommend requesting their Japanese breakfast, the spread is excellent with large servings of rice. Good to sustain a hearty morning tour of the temples in Kyoto.

“A taste of traditional Japanese hospitality”

We enjoyed our Spring stay In Kyoto at the Nashinoki Inn.
Quite easy to find from the directions supplied when booking.
The delightful couple serve a wonderful Japanese breakfast in their sparkling clean establishment and the only problems likely to occur will be with your knees!!!!
It's tatami mat and low tables and chairs! A wonderful experience.
Not a lot of great eating options in the area (just north of the Imperial Palace) so probably a good idea to dine before returning home.

“Relaxed stay at Nashinoki Inn”

We stayed here in April on a one day trip to Kyoto and were very happy. It is a 10 minute walk from the train station, but the lodgings were nice and very clean, and the innkeepers were very kind. We really enjoyed the breakfast and would definitely stay here again.

“nice homey feeling”

I stayed here for four nights in late July, when it was very hot in Kyoto. However, the owner was always ready with cold drinks or watermelon whenever I returned, and was always very helpful. The Japanese breakfast is excellent. The facilities are spartan but quite adequate (with tatami mat floor, futon, kimono, small table for writing, shelves, and enough space for clothing and luggage) and have a homey feeling, and the availability of a bicycle was great. The AC unit in my room worked very well.
