My husband and I wanted to try a ryokan while in Japan, but due to budget constraints, it wasn't easy to find a ryokan under 10,000 yen.
This place met the budget and was an excellent choice. The owners were really friendly, especially our affable lady host.
The website for the inn indicates that it is a 7 mins walk from the nearest subway station. Although directions on how to get to the inn are crystal clear, the walk is closer to 12 mins.
When you're carrying a fullpack, like my husband was, and in the Japan summer heat, it matters.
Also, generally, if you're not used to sleeping on futons, ryokans may not be a good choice. Although their futons were a ok thickness, we couldn't get to sleep, being used to mattresses.
I would recommend requesting their Japanese breakfast, the spread is excellent with large servings of rice. Good to sustain a hearty morning tour of the temples in Kyoto.
