The Cross Hotel Osaka is recently renovated and rebranded (was Hotel Riva Nankai and before that Hotel Riva Shinsaibashi - important if you're taking a taxi to the hotel).
The location is impeccable for tourists; the front of the hotel is on Midosuji which is THE upscale shopping district in Osaka. One street down is Shinsaibashi, the famed covered shopping alley, and across the Ebisubashi bridge is Dotonbori, the dining and entertainment epicentre. In short, you are right in the middle of the heart of Osaka.
The hotel is modern and minimalist. The lobby is unlike anything you've seen in other hotels. The front desk is just a giant donut-shaped booth with minimal staff. There's nothing else that reminds you of a hotel lobby. The corridors are dark, but in a stylish kind of way. The room decor is also ultra modern, with white built-in furniture and black textured wallpaper, anchored by a giant flat panel TV. The double bed is comfortable. The bathroom is large, with a separate bathtub and Japanese style shower area. The bidet, a fixture in any decent Japanese hotel, is of the upscale kind, with heated seat, multi-mode jets, warm air, and odor eliminator.
Getting around town is easy, as it is sandwiched between the Shinsaibashi and Namba subway stations, both served by the main Midosuji subway line, among others. Namba station is also a transportation hub, with terminals for the Nankai main line, Kintetsu's Namba line, and JR West's Yamatoji line.
