We stayed at the hotel next door. This place is great. They dress in cowboy attire. The food was great. there is also a gift shop inside. It is the home of the 72oz steak. You eat it in 1 hour and it's free. It is totally cheesy but so much fun.

We were going across country; Boston to San Diego, never been in Texas, and spending the night in Amarillo. How could we not go? A chance not to have to drive someplace for dinner and not eat in another hotel lounge and the ride to and from was free, how could we not go???? PLUS miss the completely over the top spectacle that is The Big Texan? No. Our waiter was a very fun Texan native and we had a great time. The bigger than your head Margarita's were great and the BBQ ribs I had were wonderful. Fall off the bone tender and the rack was falling off the plate it was so big. I was well fed, well watered and safely transported back to the hotel by a safe driver. It was a great night on our long, fun journey. Would I go back if ever in Amarillo again, yes! And I would order the exact same thing. Vegetarians stay away, in fact you may want to avoid Texas all together.

Eat their 72 oz steak in less than 1 hour and become a Big Texan Champion!

After many trips to Amarillo, I finally tried The Big Texan (you can't spent time in Amarillo and not notice this landmark restaurant). Well, the answer was, would have been better off not trying it. The food was mediocre at best, service maybe average, and the tourist part of actually seeing this landmark not worth the meal. This restaurant clearly lives off the one time tourist trade as there can not be a lot of repeat business - probably why they offer free limo service to get you into the restaurant.
