“Convenient and family friendly - LOVED it!”

This is an excellent property. I was travelling with my husband, my teenage daughter, and her friend. We were in a deluxe 1 bedroom unit which offers a seperate bedroom, a living room, a full size kitchen, and an interesting bathroom layout including a jacuzzi tub. The bathroom was set up with a sink, toilet and shower in one room and the jacuzzi and another sink in a room that ran between the bedroom and the bathroom. It was handy because it gave us 2 sinks and mirrors - so I didn't have to compete with 2 teenagers in order to get ready for the day/evening. The rooms are decorated in Colonial style and unit is stocked with everything you will need. The bed and bedding were fantastic - so comfortable after walking around DC for the day!

The Metro station is right across the street and there is a free trolley that runs down King Street to the river, so you can get pretty much everywhere you would want without getting in the car. After reading reviews I was a little nervous about a couple of things - parking and the pool. The pool is very small and closed during the mid-section of the day, but we never even used it anyway - too many other things to do! The parking was never a problem either. It is a free parking garage and there seemed to be adequate spaces the entire week. The spaces are a little narrow if you are driving a large truck or SUV, but our sedan was fine.

This is a timeshare property, but I booked it directly through an owner on an online auction website so I didn't have to attend a sales pitch. There is also a nice gameroom with a large screen TV, several game tables (checkers, poker, backgammon, etc.) and a computer with internet access. Additionally, there is a movie lounge with another large screen TV and several large, plush theater style chairs. This room has another 2 computers with internet access. While we were there, the hotel was upgrading to WiFi, but I didn't have a computer with me so I didn't inquire about the cost or availability.

This was a wonderful experience. I do have two minor complaints - the hallways and public areas are a little warmer than what is comfortable in the heat of July and we did have a few problems keeping our room keys programmed to work. We were told that they deprogram fairly easily if carried close to a cell phone. We paid closer attention to keeping them seperate and it seemed to be better.

“Wonderful location, nice place to stay...”

Wyndham Old Town Alexandria

5 of 5 stars
Boalsburg, PA

My parents are timeshare owners through RCI, so they booked a room on our behalf. A total of seven of us (three couples and one toddler) stayed in three one-room suites, two of which adjoined and the other which was just down the hall.

When we first entered our suite, we were immediately impressed with the decor. It was beautiful, with rich colors and a patriotic theme. The furniture was high-quality stuff. The kitchen was very large, with tons of usable counter space. The bedroom was huge, with a luxurious king-bed and two sinks in separate, adjacent bathrooms (one with the shower and toilet, the other with the jacuzzi tub). As we've come to expect with Wyndham Vacation Resort properties, this place was clean, well-maintained, and beautiful.

Beyond the suite itself, there is much to enjoy at Wyndham Old Town Alexandria. The location is perfect, literally a two-minute walk from a Metro station. We were on the Mall in D.C. less than thirty minutes after walking out the door of our suite. The Wyndham is also right on King Street, which is a charming street that cuts down the center of beautiful Alexandria. We hiked up and down that street several times, enjoying many of the shops (from high-end boutiques and a Crate and Barrel outlet to cute little thrift shops and Ross). We took the free trolley on King Street when we were tired of walking, with a stop right in front of the Wyndham. At the other end of King Street is the waterfront, and we enjoyed the large art gallery in an old torpedo factory. On our final day, we walked down a few blocks to historic Christ Church, where George Washington and Robert E. Lee were both members. What a beautiful old house of worship!

Of course, there are a few things to critique. The key entry into the parking garage was extremely finicky, and when we went to the front desk to get our cards recoded, we were essentially scolded for not sliding the key card slowly enough, even though we tried about twenty times at every possible speed and angle. For whatever reason, all of the remotes in all three of our suites were unable to turn the TVs on and off, though they still worked for the channels and volume. There were very few plates and silverware in each suite, and since we ate all of our dinners in our rooms, we frequently had to shuffle stuff back and forth from one suite to another. For such a nice place, I was amazed that they did not have wireless internet access in the rooms, though we were able to find free wireless from the adjacent Hilton in one end of the lobby at the Wyndham. Finally, we encountered one pushy saleswoman in the lobby and had a moderately irritating sales pitch from the timeshare sales staff (which we admittedly volunteered to attend to claim $50 in gift cards).

These frustrations notwithstanding, we had a wonderful stay at Wyndham Old Town Alexandria. If we ever head back to the D.C. area, I'd be happy to stay there again and recommend it highly for anyone who wants a beautiful place to stay in a great location just outside D.C.

“GREAT LOCATION!”

Wyndham Old Town Alexandria

2 of 5 stars
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
May 26, 2008

We are Wyndham owners (Hawaii) this was our first time to DC area. Even though we are Platimum members it was difficult to get in this resort. First week we had a 1 bedroom 1 bath
Deluxe Unit and it was very nice. Our second week no Deluxe units were available so we had to pack up and move to a Reg.
1 bedroom, 1 bath unit and it was very disapointing to us.
Very very small, funky old little TV's, not the big Plasma in the Deluxe room. However, this is the best location to see all the sights, using the Metrorail was great and it's just next to this Resort.

The biggest complaint we had was the front office staff......For 3 night in a row, our room key would not work also wouldn't work on the garage. The front office kept validating it for only 1 day at a time instead of for the week. We called down to the desk 6 different times and no one would answer the phone. We would walk to the desk and find their phone ringing and no one there.
One time, we finally asked the janitor to get someone and two girls came out from the back. We had many problems with the staff. We travel a lot and this was the worst with front office staff.
For days the garage for parking doors were broken and we had to
go through Hilton's entery to park.

We would come back, because of the location, but only if a Deluxe unit was available to us. We rented a car, but you could easily do without and use the metrorail. Fly into Reagan
and hop on the Metro and it will take you right to King St. and it's just a half a block to the Resort.

We are RCI owners who recently stayed at Wyndham Old Town Alexandria for a week. We had a two bedroom/two bath unit that was amazing! The location is awesome...just about a block from the Metro. The Wyndham is bright and cheery. You can tell that it has recently been remodeled. Our unit was very clean with wonderful beds and nice living room furniture. I have read previous reviews regarding the train that you are able to hear. I only heard this three or four times during the week we were there. Not bad, in my opinion. Also, it was never so loud that it kept me from sleeping or woke me up from sleep. The hotel is located on King Street which houses numerous quaint shops and restaurants. We rented a car (with GPS) that I would definately recommend so you can go see the sights downtown. You can also go with the Metro as it is close. We will stay here again when we are in D.C.

“Very nice place. Conveniently located. Will probably return again.”

We're actually there right now, and the place is a pleasant surprise. We had a 2-bedroom deluxe (whatever that means), that it is quite large, nicely decorate, and the linens are good quality. It is conveniently located, but the train noise is a bit bothersome. The front desk and concierge are very helpful.

Here are the minuses:
1. Train noise
2. The timeshare sales people are quite agressive, calling us every morning (woke me up each time) to "make sure everything was ok". (We did not book through any kind of timeshare package so therefore are not obligated to tour, but they try nonetheless.)
3. The pool is too small
4. No jacuzzi, no steam room
5. The TVs are small
6. No restaurant on site (although the Hilton next doors does have one)
7. No housekeeping during the stay. (We're staying the whole week, so I'm not sure if that's the typical arrangement.)

That being said, we will probably stay here again.
