“Supposed to be a 4 star hotel”

Mercure Grand Internacional Foz

3 of 5 stars
Ft. Lauderdale
Jul 25, 2008

Online, this hotel is listed as a 4 and sometimes a 5 star hotel. By American standards, it's not as good as a Sheraton, Marriot, or Hilton, which are 4 star hotels here. The rooms are a good size, but the lighting is dim, there are no washcloths or rags available, so you will need to bring your own washcloth, rag, or other tool you use to shower with. The grounds are nice and well kept. For dinner, I ate at the buffet one night, and the restaurant on the top floor another night. The top floor restaurant is better. The food available at the buffet is not that great. The one good thing is it is located near the Iguacu Falls.

“A wonderful hotel”

Mercure Grand Internacional Foz

Jun 28, 2008

I stayed at this hotel for two nights while visiting the waterfalls. The hotel is wonderful. The rooms were clean, the beds were huge and comfortable. We were on the tenth floor ,with city views. We dined in the hotel ,on the top floor (18th) again with views over the city. The meals were of a very high standard as was the wine selection and a three course meal for three, with a bottle of good wine came to a very reasonable 240 reals. We visited the waterfall ,both Brasillian and Argentinian sides and found them to be an awesome sight. We also went over the friendship bridge into Paraguay to do some tax free shopping. If I return to Foz in the future and I would love too,I'll definately book into here. One thing I did notice, some folks complained they were cold. This was in June,in the southern hemisphere, which ,of course ,is winter and although Foz is in Brasil, its way south of Rio ,so you can expect frost on some mornings, dress accordingly.

“Nice hotel, maybe four stars insread five, not the greatest location”

Mercure Grand Internacional Foz

4 of 5 stars
Cinnaminson, New Jersey
Jun 1, 2008

I stayed here recently with my 10 year old son and my 25 year old cousin. We booked this hotel mainly because of the nice pool, although my son only used it once, since it wasn't heated.

I found it to be very nice. Maybe not the luxury that I would expect with a five star hotel, but it was definitely better than a three star hotel. They always had a large, varied buffet breakfast in the morning. On the last morning, when we had to leave early before breakfast opened, the hotel staff was nice enough to let us get a couple of croissants for the road.

I had none of the complaints that some of the previous posters had. I saw no bugs. No problems with the facilities. I found the rates for use of the internet to be reasonable.

I really enjoyed the area by the pool. It was like a private secluded oasis in the middle of the city. (The town surrounding the hotel was not the nicest looking area.) There was a nice HSBC bank across the street, and I had no trouble getting any money out at night from the ATM. The "cafeteria"/"brasserie" next door was nice for a light meal. We also ordered Pizza Hut delivery on our last night, which was a nice treat for my son.

Overall, I really enjoyed this hotel and would highly recommend it to others!

“Nice hotel”

Mercure Grand Internacional Foz

4 of 5 stars
Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom
May 25, 2008

We stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel was really nice; it had good sized rooms, nice pool area, choice of eating areas & room service (which we used on our first night).

The location of this hotel is good as well, although it’s about 30 minutes away from the falls there is plenty of shopping, nice walks to take and it felt safe.

The hotel also has its own tours that are a good price. We were on a group tour package and when they told me that i would have to go on a trip that left at 7.30am I decided to have a well disserved lie-in and booked the trip with the hotel for a time that suited me and we had our own tour guide.

Just note that if you are there on a Sunday be prepared not to each much as the restaurant only serves a choice of 3 things which are small portions. But next door there is a really nice cafe that is open 24/7.

Don’t do the Paraguay trip as a lot of the electronics are much dearer then the UK and it is a horrible place. I would only suggest going if you want a lens for a SLR anything else will be a waste of money.

“Quite ok Hotel not far from the falls”

Mercure Grand Internacional Foz

3 of 5 stars
Montreal
Mar 30, 2008

Not sure what is soooo bad about this hotel as some critisize it. The rooms were ok, nothing to write home about but not that bad as some like to describe it, the breakfast was really good with a good variety and the pool was great.

The only thing that bugged me a bit is that they advertize this as a 5* which is truely not the case. from a european standpoint a good 3*s, thats it. And the price was a bit steap, but I guess compared to the other hotels in the area still a good choice.
