“O.K. o.k”

Renaissance Mumbai Hotel & Convention Centre

Apr 1, 2008

Obviously one wouldn't want to stay here to see the sights (the wrong side of town) but as a business hotel fine: an oasis of greenery in industrial Andheri East with pleasant enough views over a tributary of Powai Lake. No complaints. What you see is what you get but I can't say I was really taken with it. Devoid of charm

“Nice, High Security off the Beaten Path”

Renaissance Mumbai Hotel & Convention Centre

4 of 5 stars
Harrisburg,PA

One thing you have realize about Mumbai is that hotels are expensive, on par with NYC. The Renaissance is located north of the airport by Lake Powai. The grounds and the facility are extremely nice with nothing bad to say about them. The room was comfortable and very quiet. In the morning you cold hear the call to prayer if you were already awake. Jet lag will do that to you.

The hotel is set back from the beaten path and very secure. They check cars coming in to the compound with armed guards and mirrors that they slide underneath the car. It makes you wonder and feel secure at the same time.

Mumbai is really two very different cities. The old part to the south and the northern new business sections. "Old Bombay" is much nicer, but can be as much as a 2 hr drive away from the hotel on a busy day. Traffic is quite frankly murder. The area of Mumbai that the hotel is located in can be a bit disconcerting with the dirt and filth that surrounds the very nice, and well kept hotel grounds. Two different worlds. If you go, have a private driver it will make a difference.

Speaking of drivers, if you go say hi to Musaf for us. On Holi we rented the hotel car to take us around for 8 hrs and give us a tour. Musaf was our driver and was extremely courteous and knowledgeable. Trust his decisions on what to show you. The car and Musaf cost us no more then about $180 dollars for the day, that included lunch for all 3 of us. Great bargain.

When I return I will stay here again. If you are doing business in the older section of Mumbai to the south find a different place to stay, the commute will kill you.

“Great hotel”

Renaissance Mumbai Hotel & Convention Centre

Mar 10, 2008

I booked this 3 night stay using marriott reward points. We were booked into a hill view executive room on the 7th (top) floor. The room was not large but lovely and looked recently refurbished with all amenities. The room was well soundproofed with plenty of natural light and good airconditioning without any odours. The hotel is in a very quiet location so there is no traffic noise.

We had lounge access which is on the 6th floor and served a limited breakfast drinks and snacks. It was very quiet during our stay.

They are doing some refurbishment to the gym at present but this did not impact our stay. There is an excellent pool area with some sunloungers located in a shallow area of the pool which was a nice touch.

We ate in the indian restaurant which was good and also the main restaurant which was ok.

The hotel generally was very good with good service and lovely rooms. The location is north of the airport (approx 30-45mins) be aware that traffic in Mumbai is terrible. We ventured into downtown Mumbai eveyday and depending on the time of day it takes 1.5-2.5 hours to get there. We also visited the nearby (40mins) national park where you can see caves and a lion/tiger safari (we didnt do this as it looked more of a zoo like experience) you are also about 40mins from India's largest shopping mall (Inorbit), but this is not really any different from a UK/US mall except it is predominantly Indian brands.

“Good Hotel but expensive”

Stayed here on business. Indian and Chinese restaurants are fine. rooms are fine. Breakfast buffet is poor - in India to avoid food poisoning avoid all dairy products and any liquid that is not bottled. Also avoid salad and fruit - only eat fruit that you wash yourself and cut yourself. Wash teeth using bottled water. Always use hand sanitizer.

At buffet there was no bottled water only juices that had been made up and were not bottled. Also there was fruit, and cereal with milk in a jug. So you couldn't eatany of that. You could drink black tea assuming it was boiled, although a friend said that in Nepal they make the tea with hot not boiling water, so very dangerous.

In any case at €300 a night for a hotel that would be cheaper in brussels, they should have provided free bottles of water at breakfast. They can be ordered from waiter but this is hassle.

Location overlooks lake so is nice and saw no mosquitos there 9feb is winter). Road outside the hotel is typical bad paving with hundreds of autorickshaws.

“Home from Home”

Renaissance Mumbai Hotel & Convention Centre

I stayed at the Renaissance for 4 months in 2005 while working in Mumbai and although wasn't staying there in 2004 while working spent a great deal of my 3 months using the facilities.
I loved living there so much that when I returned to Mumbai for a wedding in 2007 there was no question that I'd be staying at the Renaissance.
After a 2.5year break staff still knew my name, asked after my colleagues and remembered who we were - you can't buy service like that!
The staff are friendly and helpfull and although occasionally calling for room service can be difficult to get what you want their enthusiasm and willingness to please overrides this.
On my return in 2007 I was disappointed that although the poolside is subjected to continuous building work from dusk to dawn the Marriott group continue to charge full rate pricing. This however would be my only gripe.
