“Good value, but not a boutique”

This is an excellent value at RM260 for 2 nights, but the hotel lacks any character; it feels not much different than a Holiday Inn. The room had only two sliver thin windows, and it was obvious that they renovated only the entryway and bathroom. As with the other reviews, the in-room safe was not working.

There is an open-air bar/restaurant on the ground level. Unfortunately, there is live music until around midnight, which is quite loud. The free wifi is actually only in the same bar/restaurant, although there was about 50-60% signal strength in the room. The wifi goes off just before they close.

The included breakfast is served in the same restaurant, where you can select from a variety of set meals. The Western breakfasts are a bit random and bland, but the nasi lemak was tasty.

I would recommend this hotel for price only; but warn anyone who wanted quiet or style.

“Value for money”

Aldy Hotel

We stayed at Aldy for 2 nights in November 2007. We stayed at a superior room for RM250 2 nights. It was booked through an online travel agent.

The room was beyond expectations. It was clean, tidy and rather cosy. It had an electronic safe which was not working at that time. The bathroom was also big and we were not expecting it for the price we paid. Parking at Aldy is quite easy, with two open air parking slots reserved opposite the hotel. Granted, we were there during a low peak season and parking might just be a little harder during peak season.

What we thoroughly enjoyed was the rooftop jacuzzi. The rooftop jacuzzi is free of charge and virtually no one was using it at that time. The manager even sent jacuzzi towels up to our room.

Unable to comment on the breakfast as we skipped it. Noise is prevalent at night but quite manageable. We like so much, we will in fact return next month for another stay. Highly recommended for travellers looking for good location, clean rooms, a bit of fun (thanks to the rooftop jacuzzi) and most of all, value for money!

“Good location but noisy”

We have stayed in most of the bigger hotels in Malacca like Equatorial, Riveria, Makhota etc. This time, we thought we would like to try a smaller hotel for a change. Having read through some good reviews about Aldy Hotel, I decided to go ahead.

The location was good but most of the locals there was not aware of the location of this hotel. We spent quite some time driving round the town looking for this red building.

My impression of the room is satisfactory, spacious and clean but nothing spectacular. There were only 2 small windows in the room. Parking is a major problem and it's on first-come-first serve at the hotel's maybe about 6 to 8 lots parking compound.

We would not recommend this hotel to families or individuals who are looking for a quiet environment. The bamboo hut restaurant on the ground floor has a live band & big TV screen for night owls and the hotel has only 3 floors of rooms. So, no matter which floor you are staying, you would definitely hear the music at night.

We've made a booking through the website and a family room cost us RM280 per night. It is cheaper however, to join as the hotel members and get more privileges and discounts. So for those thinking of staying in this hotel, I would encourage you to go direct to the hotel's website and join as a member in order to get an attractive rate.

When I reached Melaka, I was terrified when the locals, & worst, even the taxi drivers don't know where the hotel is & such a hotel exist.

However, U will be surprised that it is actually quite centrally located near to many landmarks in Melaka! If next time, you reached there & not sure where the hotel is, ask the driver to drive you somewhere near to Stadthuy or the A' Famosa & when you reach there, look out for a red building, with an outdoor coffee house, that is where the hotel is.

You can walk to many tourist attractions there & there are some brightly decorated trishaws there which you can take photos with, if you are willing to pay some money to them. Beside that, when I was checking out, around 8+am, I managed to catch a glimpse of police riding on horses!!! That is really amazing, juz a pity that when I take my camera out, I juz took the horse "back", what a mizz!!

As for the hotel, its considered gd in comparison to those previous hotels (as what my frens fr HK & US feedback), however, I'm juz disappointed that the hotel reception area & corridor are stuffy, no air-con at all!! & the air-con need to be operated manually, & when U get out of the hotel rooms, it'll automatically shut off, making it quite hot & stuffy when U get bk after Ur trip out...

Another thing which is quite amazing is tat, their single rooms can be bigger than their double bed rooms!! & when I ask the staff there, is it also so, I was given a very funny answer... Guess what, they told me, its not necessary so, some rooms is bigger & some rooms smaller, making it into a "LUCKY DRAW" thing!!! If Your luck is GD, U get a bigger room, if your luck is bad, you get a smaller room!! I juz find this a bit ridiculous!!

Another thing is that the daily necessities like toothpaste, toothbrush, if you need it, better bring your own if not, then U will have to buy from them... They don't provide these basic necessities even if you stay in their superior rooms.

Another thing, is that, the live music starts to play only at 9+pm till late at night, thus, if you prefer to go to bed earlier, U will have to get some cotton buds to stuff your ears or enjoy your "loud" Gd nite sleep song

Beside that, their set breakfast choice is quite limited, especially if you are a strict vegetarian, better get some instant noodles for yourself, if not, then U will have to order their cornflakes set, which is fr their kids menu... However, the proportion is enough for an adult (enough even for a big eater)

If you have some disabilities, this is a OK hotel for you too, though you might need some help in pushing your luggage to their reception area on the 2nd flr (need to push your luggage to the back of the building, up 2 steps b4 able to get to their reception area on the 2nd flr)

On the average, this is an OK hotel to stay.

Location is everything and nothing beats Hotel Aldy in this matter. Mahkota Parade, Porta de Santiago, City Centre, etc. are all within walking distance as Aldy Hotel is centre to everything.

Staffs at the hotel are warm and friendly. The restaurant at the bottom (Bamboo) is a lively place also with very friendly staffs. Bamboo features live music every night from 20:00hrs till midnight. Definitely recommended to check the entertainer out for this daily live event!

Parking is not much of a problem either.
