“Great Homely Hotel For the Family with Young Kids”

Aldy Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Singapore, Singapore
Jun 16, 2008

Booked through the friendly and prompt Hotel Website for a room specifying two adults and two kids aged seven and below.

First timers even after reading all the wonderful reviews/accolades this Hotel had for many a years.

Carparks, are limited to about 15 cars, 2 in front of the building, 13 near the abandoned building. Other than that, guests have to make do with valid parking coupons/park at their own risks. There are no carpark attendents, however, the hotel staff, even the chef will gladly help! My family was pleasantly surprised but such wonderful gesture.

We had to entered through the'back door' as the Hotel lobby is situated in the first floor (2nd storey). Ground floor was occupied by a restaurant cum pub (at night). Food however, so-so.

The lobby was slightly weathered, clean but with some indelible stains on the carpet. It was small but yet cosy. Over the counter was prompt and friendly.

Allocated a room in the fourth floor. It appears to be a Kid's Suite.
A queen sized bed in expensive sheets (where you will get in a five star hotel only, thread counts maybe in the 200's). Kid's bed with pull-out. Pink for the girl, and blue for the boy. There were bedtime storybooks, toys littered at the shelf.

Open concept kitchen, with microwave oven, sandwich maker, fridge filled with some kiddy sweets, drinks etc. Utensils for kids and adults alike.

Not many channels, though. But there was some VCDs for kids, and one ASTRO channel (star Movies).

A green sofa, sits near the wardrobe meant for four persons. An electronic safe. A small kiddy table with four stools. One rocker (kids).

Shower/toilet clean and homely.

We slept well, even though we could hear faint sounds of music from the PUB below, but it did not bother us.

All in all, the room is good and homely, but not great and neither is it lavishly done, which it was meant to be, The family loves it.

Location is great too, the malls, museum jonker walks are all within walking distance.

Of the three days we spent there, we thoroughly find it a home away from home. Great place with great friendly staff.

However, on our next upcoming trip (in July), we will be looking for another place to put up, as we are still looking for the HOTEL with the "WOW' factor.

“Junior Suite Excellent for Family with Kids”

Aldy Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Singapore
Jun 10, 2008

The hotel staff recommended the Junior Suite when I told them I am travelling with 3 boys - all below 9 years old.
It was slightly more expensive (RM10) than a Quad room however my wife and myself decided to give it a try.
We were most happy with the "suite".
There was queen size bed and kid-style single bed with a pull out single bed below. The room is equip with toys, story and coluring books and cartoon VCD discs (and off course the VCD player and TV), while the toilet is equip with a kid-stool and amendities to help the kids, and the kitchen is equip with a fridge, microwave oven, a sandwich maker and utensile.
The music from the cafe down below do come through at night but we were not disturb by it because the music was soothing.
The hotel offer Playstation for rental at RM30 per night and its has more than 20+ games and 2 game-pads.
Location of the hotel is excellent - just beside the Police Station and below St Paul Hill/Church. My family walked to all the nearby attractions (museums, jonker walk, etc) and the shopping malls. Malacca now has one more shopping mall beside Mahkota Parade and one more is up and coming - Carrefour is already operating at this 3rd mall.
Parking at the hotel though limited is available.
Do also give the Thursday night BBQ that is held at the roof-top of the hotel a try also.

“Good value, but not a boutique”

Aldy Hotel

This is an excellent value at RM260 for 2 nights, but the hotel lacks any character; it feels not much different than a Holiday Inn. The room had only two sliver thin windows, and it was obvious that they renovated only the entryway and bathroom. As with the other reviews, the in-room safe was not working.

There is an open-air bar/restaurant on the ground level. Unfortunately, there is live music until around midnight, which is quite loud. The free wifi is actually only in the same bar/restaurant, although there was about 50-60% signal strength in the room. The wifi goes off just before they close.

The included breakfast is served in the same restaurant, where you can select from a variety of set meals. The Western breakfasts are a bit random and bland, but the nasi lemak was tasty.

I would recommend this hotel for price only; but warn anyone who wanted quiet or style.

“Value for money”

Aldy Hotel

We stayed at Aldy for 2 nights in November 2007. We stayed at a superior room for RM250 2 nights. It was booked through an online travel agent.

The room was beyond expectations. It was clean, tidy and rather cosy. It had an electronic safe which was not working at that time. The bathroom was also big and we were not expecting it for the price we paid. Parking at Aldy is quite easy, with two open air parking slots reserved opposite the hotel. Granted, we were there during a low peak season and parking might just be a little harder during peak season.

What we thoroughly enjoyed was the rooftop jacuzzi. The rooftop jacuzzi is free of charge and virtually no one was using it at that time. The manager even sent jacuzzi towels up to our room.

Unable to comment on the breakfast as we skipped it. Noise is prevalent at night but quite manageable. We like so much, we will in fact return next month for another stay. Highly recommended for travellers looking for good location, clean rooms, a bit of fun (thanks to the rooftop jacuzzi) and most of all, value for money!

“Good location but noisy”

Aldy Hotel

We have stayed in most of the bigger hotels in Malacca like Equatorial, Riveria, Makhota etc. This time, we thought we would like to try a smaller hotel for a change. Having read through some good reviews about Aldy Hotel, I decided to go ahead.

The location was good but most of the locals there was not aware of the location of this hotel. We spent quite some time driving round the town looking for this red building.

My impression of the room is satisfactory, spacious and clean but nothing spectacular. There were only 2 small windows in the room. Parking is a major problem and it's on first-come-first serve at the hotel's maybe about 6 to 8 lots parking compound.

We would not recommend this hotel to families or individuals who are looking for a quiet environment. The bamboo hut restaurant on the ground floor has a live band & big TV screen for night owls and the hotel has only 3 floors of rooms. So, no matter which floor you are staying, you would definitely hear the music at night.

We've made a booking through the website and a family room cost us RM280 per night. It is cheaper however, to join as the hotel members and get more privileges and discounts. So for those thinking of staying in this hotel, I would encourage you to go direct to the hotel's website and join as a member in order to get an attractive rate.
